Stop staring at corrupted paths. Time to clear them!

Stuck on the annoying corrupted paths in Mortal Shell 2? Here’s how you can unlock Mether’s Breath by collecting enough Ova and using them at Gloom Siphon in Marrow Keep. Once you have it, you’ll be able to clear away the corruption, unlock new paths, and zip around the map with ease.

How to Cleanse Corruption in Mortal Shell 2

Cleanse corruption with Mether's Breath in dungeon.

To remove a corrupted blockage, you need Mether’s Breath. With the item in hand, approach a wall or barrier covered in the black corruption tendrils and interact with the prompt. Press and hold the button until the corruption vanishes and the path forward opens. If you go to a blocked area without this item, the game will display the message “This path is blocked by corruption. Once enough ova are collected, the Gloom Siphon will distill a vapor to cleanse the path.”

Note: Mether’s Breath also unlocks the ability to fast travel between Beacons and return to Marrow Keep. Just remember that returning to the keep by Mether’s Breath costs you all your current Gloom.

Some corruption blocks Gates rather than simple walls. If you see this, look for a nearby Beacon to cleanse. Clearing that Beacon often removes the corruption from the Gate, letting you move into the area that was previously locked. So, when you find a Corrupted Gate, check the surrounding area for a Beacon before trying to find another way.

How to Get Mether’s Breath in Mortal Shell 2

6 Ovum siphoned to unlock Mether's Breath

To get Mether’s Breath, you need to siphon six Ova at Marrow Keep. You can get Ova by cleansing Beacons when exploring the world. Once you have enough of them, interact with the Gloom Siphon in the Marrow Keep to obtain Mether’s Breath.

Ova received after cleansing a Beacon.

While the main story gives you 3 Ova by completing the prologue, you obtain most of them by clearing the Beacons. Normal Beacons drop one Ova, but those near Corrupted Gates offer more. If you want to unlock Breath ability fast, focus on the easy, nearby Beacons and avoid tough battles.

What Does Mether’s Breath Do?

Mether’s Breath has three main uses during exploration:

  • Cleanses corruption: It clears corrupted walls that block your path.
  • Fast travel: It lets you quickly move between discovered Beacons and other available destinations.
  • Returns you to Marrow Keep: You can use it to travel back to the hub, but doing so costs all your Gloom.

Because of that last cost, I avoid using the Marrow Keep return option while carrying a large amount of Gloom unless I actually need to go back.
