All Mortal Shell 2 Endings and How to Get Them

The weirdest ending is easy to miss so follow this path carefully.

Mortal Shell 2 has two endings: the Main Quest Ending and the Secret Baghead Ending. You can have both in one playthrough without having to start a second character, but the order matters. Get Baghead’s ending first, then finish the main story and choose Send Ova only after you’ve cleaned up anything you still want to do.

Mortal Shell 2 Endings Explained

There are 2 different endings for Mortal Shell 2:

  • Main Story Ending: Recover enough Ova, complete Walk the Unfound Path, defeat Zmey, then return to Marrow Keep and choose Send Ova.
  • Baghead Ending: Complete Baghead’s strange request on Desolate Peak and deliberately return to him with nothing.

These paths do not cancel each other out. The Baghead story lets you continue playing afterward, so it makes sense to get that ending out of the way before finishing the Ova storyline. There’s also no separate third ending hidden behind a late dialogue choice.

How to Get Secret Baghead Ending in Mortal Shell 2

Mortal Shell 2 map showing Illusionist's Cache location.

Head to Desolate Peak in western Fainweald, near the Illusionist’s Cache. A convenient way in is through the portal at the Gloomshade Grove Beacon. You will find Baghead sitting on a throne surrounded by followers wearing bags on their heads.

Talking to Baghead during initial encounter.

Talk to Baghead until he tells you to sit down. Use the nearby interaction to sit with the rest of the figures. Wait for at least a minute, then get up and speak with Baghead again. He will ramble for a bit before asking you to complete a specific task to prove your worth. Don’t worry about the dialogue choice about being different since it does not change the ending. Just keep talking to him and answer “Yes” to all his questions until he gives you the assignment.

Turn away from Baghead’s throne and face back toward the stone archway entrance. Look to the left of the arched doorway near the stone wall, where you will notice a faint white item glow resting on top of a small wooden crate. Pick up the Special Moonshine from there, and return to Baghead.

Speak with him, and when he asks the same question, “You really think this is what I want?” twice, answer Yes to each to get rejected. Then go back to the crates where you found the Special Moonshine, drop it back to its place, and return to him empty-handed.

Answer Yes to Baghead to confirm you have nothing.

Baghead will now throw a question straight up: “You’re back and you have… nothing?” Confirm with Yes. That’s the solution to his request. You will have to choose yes a couple more times afterward. Exhaust all the dialogue to end the conversation, and after that, the secret Baghead ending will trigger with a cutscene.

Baghead Ending Reward

The Harbinger takes Baghead’s place on the throne, surrounded by his followers. After the scene ends, the credits will roll, and the Bag Holder achievement will be unlocked. Next, you can select Continue and return to the same save. That means the Baghead ending does not consume the playthrough.

How to Get Main Story Ending in Mortal Shell 2

Mortal Shell 2 Malborn Offspring boss fight scene.

You must collect at least 168 Ova before the final main ending becomes available. There are a total of 196 Ova in the world, more than you need, so don’t worry if you skip a few. Once you have the required amount, you will unlock The Unfound Path in Marrow Keep, and the Harbinger will go to eliminate The Foul Passenger.

Enter the Unfound Path and work through its mandatory encounters. The path includes major fights to win against:

  • Orrem the Discarded Golem
  • The Monolith
  • Malborn Offspring

Mortal Shell 2 Zmey, the Unbidden final boss fight scene.

Clear these encounters, and you’ll next face the final boss Zmey, the Unbidden. After you kill the boss, Undermether will confirm that the foul passenger is no more and the last thing left to do is to send Ova to the heavens. It’s easy to get this wrong, but beating Zmey does not trigger the end credits.

The Harbinger returns to the world afterward, leaving you free to deal with unfinished business. You can still explore, collect weapons, upgrade your Shells, and take care of optional content. Zmey counts as the ending boss, but not the point where your current cycle gets close.

How to Trigger the Main Ending

Send Ova option to trigger main ending of Mortal Shell 2.

When you are finished with your current tasks, go back to Marrow Keep, find the Gloom Siphon, and interact with it. Choose Send Ova to trigger the main ending. The game then advances your save into New Game Plus, so I would not select it just because Zmey is dead. Wait until you are actually done with everything else you want to do in this run.

What Happens in the Main Ending?

The recovered kin are finally sent onward by Undermether through the Ova. The Harbinger does not go with them because the Mether reveals that he was not made for the Heavens and must stay behind. Since his main objective is complete, the Harbinger is left without the purpose that drove the journey in the first place. The story therefore wraps up with the Harbinger needing to find his own meaning.
