Cries in the Distance is a 06 Jianghu Legacy quest in Where Winds Meet that takes place on Moonveil Mountain in the Qinghe region. The mission requires you to rescue a trapped acquaintance named Feng Jisheng, solve a rather tricky Yin-Yang trigram puzzle, and put your Tai Chi skills to work by hurling a rampaging bear into rock walls. Check out this guide for a walkthrough of the Cries in the Distance quest and how to solve the Yin-Yang puzzle in Where Winds Meet.
Where Winds Meet Cries in the Distance Quest Walkthrough

Open your Journal > Exploration tab, go to Jianghu Legacy, and select 06 Cries in the Distance to track the quest. From there, fast travel or go to Moonveil Mountain in Qinghe, just southwest of the Peace Bell Tower.

Right by the cliff edge overlooking the mountain pass at Moonveil Peak, you will hear an NPC shouting for help below (“Help! Is anyone there?“).

Follow the sound cues down the outcrop and drop past the twisted pine tree clinging to the cliffside. On a small plateau about halfway down the cliff face, you’ll come across a wooden trapdoor flush with a Descend to Lower Level prompt. Interact with it to enter the cave and progress the quest.
Free Feng Jisheng

Inside the cave, you’ll hear a voice echoing through the rock. Approach the wall on the right and talk to the trapped NPC, an Inkbound Order disciple named Feng Jisheng (Big Feng).

Turn around and look toward the nearby alcove blocked by thick, tangled tree roots. Draw your bow, switch to Fire Arrows, and shoot the roots to burn them away. Enter the small cave, loot the chest inside, and step onto the circular pressure plate to lift open the stone barrier and free Brother Feng in the main chamber.
Solve the Eight Trigrams and Yin-Yang Dial Puzzle
Talk to Feng, and then step onto the empty pressure plate opposite him to activate the mechanism. Once you stand on it, the floor will shift, and a large Yin-Yang Dial will rise out of the middle with four stone pedestals around it.
The objective is to orient all these pedestals so their vents direct smoke inward toward the Yin-Yang Dial.
- Heaven and Earth statues rotate separately.
- Water and Fire statues move together, so rotating one forces the other to move in reverse unless unbound.

Head over to the Yin-Yang Dial and give it one clockwise turn. Then rotate the Water and Fire statues until their dragon carvings point away from the center, while their smoke channels face inward toward the dial.
After that, rotate the Heaven and Earth statues one at a time until their dragon faces point inward at the Yin-Yang Dial. Get all four pedestals lined up feeding smoke to the center, and a cutscene will trigger in which the Yin-Yang Dial drops down into a vertical shaft.
Investigate Tian Ying’s Dwelling

Use a Mighty Drop (plunge attack) to safely drop down to the lower level without taking fall damage. In this underground chamber, do these activities:
- Read the Anonymous Journal on the table about Tian Ying’s martial research.
- Inspect the bookshelves and scattered documents on the floor.
- Collect the Strange Stone Ring (a semicircular jade artifact) resting near the wall.
- Move across the chamber to the sealed wall where Feng Jisheng will be waiting.
- Close to the wall, interact with the Stone Groove when prompted to insert the half-circle jade piece. The massive stone slab will slide open, giving access to the inner ground.
Defeat the Thick-Skinned Albino Black Bear

Following the tunnel will lead to Tian Ying’s underground arena, where you’ll fight the Thick-Skinned Albino Black Bear. A localized debuff will trigger as soon as you enter: “There’s something off about this place, your strength feels drained.” Young Hero’s usual martial attacks and weapon strikes will deal practically zero damage to the bear.
Watch out for the bear’s charging swipes and ground slams, and stay back. Cast Tai Chi Mystic Skill on him to lift the beast into the air, which gives you a window to aim your throw while you set your camera at the three glowing rock barriers blocking the cave walls:
- Front Stone Pile
- Left Stone Pile
- Right Stone Pile
Release the skill to launch the bear headfirst into a rock pile, shattering it on impact, then do the same a couple more times to hurl him into the remaining two rock barriers. Breaking the third barrier will subdue the Albino Black Bear and end the fight.
Destroying the rock mounds will open three treasure alcoves inside the cavern wall. Loot all the chests for piles of Echo Jade, Oscillating Jade, Coins, EXP, and upgrade materials. Cross the bridge toward the cavern exit and talk to Feng Jisheng one last time to complete the quest.
