Add SourceIf you want to live out your wuxia assassin fantasies in Where Winds Meet, the Touch of Death is the Mystic Skill you should unlock. It’s a stealth assassination ability that lets you instantly kill unaware enemies with a single strike. It’s locked behind a hidden dungeon puzzle quest, Echoes of Old Battles, and if you get it very early, provided you know which puzzles to solve and which braziers to light, clearing bandit camps will become trivial. Here’s how to unlock the Touch of Death Mystic Arts in Where Winds Meet.
Where Winds Meet Echoes of Old Battles Quest: How to Unlock Touch of Death

The Touch of Death skill can be unlocked by completing the Echoes of Old Battles quest inside a hidden open-world dungeon called the Northern Vow Ruins. You’ll find this at Battlecraft Slope on the eastern end of Quiche’s Verdant Wilds.

To trigger the quest, find an NPC named Lie Bujin near the main gate. He’ll be eavesdropping on some Tiger Fort soldiers interrogating a Northern Vow member to get intel for hidden treasure. The fort is packed with guards. Seriously packed. Enter inside, and you’ll see barrels around. These idiots cluster around oil barrels like moths to a flame. Shoot fire arrows at oil drums and watch the chaos unfold. One arrow. Multiple kills, easy.

Once the garrison is cleared, head to the arena just left of the main entrance and defeat the boss Zhang Bao. After he’s dead, loot the nearby chest upstairs, which will give you a Clue Two map with four brazier locations marked that should be lit to unlock the entrance to the underground.
The Brazier Puzzle

To open the path to the dungeon where Touch of Death lies, you must light four specific braziers. If you light the wrong ones, the entrance won’t unlock.
- Location 1: Right next to the chest where you collected the map.
- Location 2: On the roof directly opposite the main entrance.
- Location 3: On the turret connecting to that roof.
- Location 4: On the ramparts to the right of the main gate.

Two of them will already be lit, and once all four are aflame, go to the center of the arena and perform a jump + slam (Q while airborne) to smash open a hidden platform. The floor will give way to a staircase leading underground.
Explore the Underground Dungeon

Head down and walk through the dungeon. Loot as you go; there are chests scattered throughout. Inside the first dungeon chamber, push the door to open it and investigate the fallen soldier corpse in the next room to learn the “Oath of Vow” pose and pick the next Clue Three.

Next, follow the dungeon, and after passing through the corridor, you’ll enter the new chamber with a big statue in the middle. Interact with the prompt to use the Oath of Vow pose in front of this statue, and it will rotate automatically. Next, you have to solve the wall symbol puzzle, where you may stuck for a long but it’s quite simple. Visit our page to learn how to solve the wall puzzle in Echoes of Old Battles. Once the correct symbols are moved back, the door will open for the next room.
The Waterfall and Final Chamber

Walk through the door into the corridor, jump over past the trap, loot the chest in front, and drop down from the stones into the waterfall area. The final stretch is more about curiosity than brainpower.

Go behind the waterfall to find a waterwheel. There’s a mechanism jamming it—interact with the contraption to let the wheel turn, which opens the door to the final secret chamber. There’s also a small chest up on the rocks to the left that you can climb up and grab before exiting the waterfall. In the newly opened room, you’ll find a large golden chest that gives you the Touch of Death skill.

Further, investigate the statue in the center to receive Yanyun Armor, Constitution, and Exploration Mastery Points. Examine the writing on the wall to conclude Volume I: Echoes of Old Battles in Where Winds Meet.

How to Use Touch of Death Mystic Skill

Touch of Death is a General Passive Mystic Art developed by Commander Qi Jingtang of the Northern Vow’s Flying Horse division. Strike from behind and jam your finger into the enemy’s weak spot on their back to deal good damage; frail enemies go down in one shot. This Mystic Art is a great way to open the fight when you’re outnumbered.
Once unlocked, the skill is passive, and you don’t need to equip it. To pull off a backstab:
- Crouch to enter stealth mode.
- Approach an enemy from behind without being detected.
- Wait for the prompt and press F to strike their vital point. Done. The enemy is gone without a fight.
The skill also works along with Veil of Stillness (invisibility): go invisible, walk up behind a target, and execute. Get spotted? Break line of sight, turn invisibility again, and reset. But remember, Touch of Death is the backstab/stealth kill. It’s not a separate ability on top of sneak. Before unlocking, you can’t perform stealth executions at all, so you must grab it to use the ability.
Touch of Death Tier Upgrades
Like most Mystic Arts, Touch of Death has 4 Tiers broken into 9 Ranks. Each rank increases the general effects (more damage, better range), and each new Tier past the first introduces new effects to the move. Advancing through Ranks and Tiers costs resources, mainly Ebon Iron and Beauty’s Plume for Touch of Death breakthroughs.
