Free Morph Mystic Skill Effects and How to Get – Where Winds Meet

Parry Tian Ying’s deadliest kick and steal one of the strongest aerial control skills in Where Winds Meet.

Free Morph is an Offensive Mystic Skill you can unlock in Where Winds Meet. It’s an offensive control skill (aerial juggle combo) in which you vault upward, launching a single target with the first kick, then juggle enemies with a flurry of mid-air strikes, and slam them back to earth for impact AoE damage. It’s excellent to lock one target out of the fight, break shields, and punish mistakes. To get it, you need to beat a Challenge version of Tian Ying boss by nailing a precise parry mechanic, though the payoff is worth it for PvP and PvE combat.

How to Get Free Morph in Where Winds Meet

Complete The Promised Light Quest

The Promised Light quest map location

You need 6,000 Exploration Points in the Qinghe region to trigger The Promised Light. To complete this side quest, first find both pieces of the Buddha’s Light Jade in separate missions where you’ll have to beat bosses and collect fragments from their drops—one half is located in Bodhi Sea, and the other can be obtained in the Palace of Annals. Once both are collected, head to Halo Peak and place the Buddha’s Light Jade at the top of Buddha’s Light Pagoda to open the door at the tower’s base that leads to a hidden dungeon where you fight Tian Ying.

Beat Tian Ying’s Campaign Version

Fight your way through the dungeon until you reach Tian Ying (Miaoshan). Defeat him in this initial campaign encounter to unlock the boss’s Challenge version. You must defeat the Challenge version of Tian Ying once in the campaign to unlock the Free Morph skill.

After beating Tian Ying in the story, he will become a repeatable boss encounter on the World Map. Do not go into Trials or random challenge menus. You need to return to the same map location at Halo Peak where you fought him first and trigger the fight again. Open the Main menu and head to Wandering Paths > Challenges tab and select Tian Ying. When you re-enter the battle, Free Morph will appear on the boss info screen with 0% progress.

Parry Tian Ying’s Spinning Kicks in Phase Two

Where Winds Meet Tian Ying boss second phase

In the second phase, the boss uses his flying spinning kicks, and you’ll see an eye icon next to the boss’s health bar. That’s the proficiency meter. Every time you successfully deflect the spinning kick, it will fill by roughly 10%. You need to parry this specific attack about 10 times to max it out at 100%.

Note: The meter progress only fills when you deflect the spinning kicks and won’t count for other attacks. Further, don’t rush to kill him—if he dies before the meter fills completely, you.ll get nothing and have to restart the challenge.

To make it easy, stay about half a screen away and circle him to bait him into launching the flying kick more often, and then deflect while moving to him. If you break his posture or knock him down too hard, back off and let him recover. You want Tian Ying to be active, aggressive, and throw that spin kick frequently. Once the eye meter hits 100%, kill him to end the fight, and Free Morph will automatically unlock, which you can equip from the Mystic Skills menu.
