You have to pass the Songstress’s test during the Shadows in Bloom Lost Chapter quest in Where Winds Meet that takes place around Floral Reverie and Revelry Hall in Kaifeng. From the quest’s start, you follow the Nine Mortal Ways Disciple and intercept him in a cutscene to ask about the Water Lady. During the conversation, you will learn about the stolen List of Faceless Ones, which includes all warriors’ names Aunt Han protected in Heaven’s Pier.
Next, you have to infiltrate the Heroic Assembly to retrieve the list and booklet. Since outsiders aren’t allowed, you will disguise yourself as Master Jiang Yi, a well-known musician who has the right to enter unnoticed. Once disguised, go to Revelry Hall and try to enter the assembly. At the entrance, the Revelry Hall Manager will stop you, where you’re given a dialogue choice to “Pretend to be a VIP guest of the Heroes Assembly” or “Pretend to be Jiang Yi, the musical prodigy,” though the outcome is the same in either pick.
How to Pass the Where Winds Meet Songstress’s Test
Songstress Bai Rong is suspicious of your sudden appearance. To confirm your identity, she will decide to test you with music. She will take you to a set of instruments and ask you to reproduce a melody she sings, where the Songstress’s Test guqin puzzle triggers. You’ll be given a choice between Hard and Easy difficulty.
- Easy gives you a music puzzle hint: Sol, La, Do, Mi, Re
- Hard difficulty skips the hint, but the solution will be the same.
The instruments are arranged by height, and their notes ascend as they get taller. Wrong input resets the entire sequence, so order is important. From the in-game left-to-right arrangement, the five drums are placed in this sequence:
- Gong
- Shang
- Jue
- Zhi
- Yu
To pass the Songstress’s test, you must interact with the instruments in this exact order:
- Zhi – fourth drum
- Yu – fifth drum
- Gong – first drum
- Jue – third drum
- Shang – second drum
Once the correct drum is hit, it will glow pink, which is the green signal for you.
After the melody is successfully finished, talk to Bai Rong again and choose ‘Make a playful remark‘ when prompted. If you reject her, it will cut off the interaction and stall progress. With the playful response, Bai Rong will accept your identity, trust your talent, and allow you to use her Peach Blossom boat to travel to the Heroic Assembly.
