The Blood of Dawnwalker takes place in Vale Sangora, a gothic, fictional kingdom in the Carpathian Mountains during the mid-14th century (around 1347). As human society crumbles under the weight of war and the Black Death, ancient vampire lord Brencis and his boyars seize control of the region, using a blood-tax regime to subjugate the populace.
The World Scale and Map Structure

Vale Sangora is an open-world map that spans 10 square kilometers. It measures 4km north to south and 3km at its widest point. Rebel Wolves avoided the common trap of filling space with empty terrain and instead built a dense, layered environment meant to be explored on foot, with no mounts in the game.
To move faster, you must rely on skills like Vampirism’s Shapeshift or Witchcraft’s Mercurial Fervour, alongside fast travel via activated Wayside Shrines.
The map features 10 different explorable regions, each containing settlements, ancient ruins, Murohn dens, and open wilderness:
- Laslea Glen
- Briar Sloughs
- Maragir Wealds
- Boar’s Back
- Svartrau Outskirts
- Svartrau City (The capital hub of the region that includes Greifberg Castle, Svartrau Cathedral, and major quest lines)
- Rockfalls
- St. Tyna’s Grove
- The Silts
- Tantari Woods
Day vs. Night Exploration in Vale Sangora

The setting is directly linked to the day/night cycle, altering how you interact with the environment.
During daytime, Svartrau City and outlying settlements are active with townsfolk, open storefronts, and quest-giving NPCs. Coen wanders around as a human, using swordplay and Witchcraft, like carving runes for corpse interrogation.
When the sun is down and night arrives, Human settlements lock down, shops close, and guards patrol the streets. In the wilderness, vampiric threats like Murohn beasts emerge. Coen turns into vampire form, gains access to vampiric abilities, and uses Shadowstep to teleport across rooftops, wall-climbing to reach hidden castle ledges, and uses claws as weapons in the fights.
Are Vampires the Only Supernatural Creatures in Vale Sangora?
Definitely not. Vale Sangora was already a dangerous place before Brencis and his court took power. The developers describe monsters living in the forests, mines, and ruined areas, including undead creatures, murohni, kobolds, uriashi, likhos, psoglavs, and other supernatural threats.
That’s one of my favorite things about the setting. The vampires may control the Valley, but they haven’t somehow replaced every other monster in it. You’re still dealing with a world full of things that would happily ruin Coen’s evening.
Don’t let Brencis’ clock run out while hunting down Court Activities and missable quests. Whether you need boss choices for Ambrus, Bakir, and Xanthe, fast-travel shrine maps, or legendary gear locations across all 10 regions, we have you covered in our guides hub.
