The Blood of Dawnwalker’s Vale Sangora has all sorts of pitch-black caves, abandoned mine shafts, and ruined crypts. If you’ve cranked up your gamma to a proper moody level, these dark spaces can become impossible to walk through without a good light source. Keeping a flame ready in Coen’s inventory is the only way to avoid face-planting into stone walls or missing out on hidden loot tucked away in the shadows. This guide will show how to use a torch so you don’t get lost in the dark.
How to Use Torches in The Blood of Dawnwalker
Before you can light up any dark corridor, you first need to get your hands on a torch by looting enemy supply sacks, searching wooden crates, or buying one from a merchant.

Once added to your inventory, follow these steps to equip and draw your torch:
- Open your inventory screen and scroll over to the Consumables tab.
- Press Y (or Triangle on PlayStation) to open the quick slots menu found in the bottom right of the screen.
- Select the hotbar slot you want to assign, then confirm the torch from your inventory list.
- Close the menu and tap the assigned quick slot button to wield the torch whenever you hit an unlit area.
It’s fine to carry a flame for daytime underground exploration, but a torch makes it way easier for enemies to spot Coen. Sticking to the shadows is still your best bet for stealth, but a torch hotkeyed means you have an instant light source up your sleeve whenever you’re ready to loot or explore cleared areas.
Can You Use a Torch During Combat?
The item is primarily an exploration tool, so it’s worth it before and between fights. Keep it assigned to a quick slot and switch back to your combat consumables when an encounter starts. The four quick slots are here only to let you have access to valuable items without stopping to rummage through the inventory.
