Elden Ring is one of the greatest role-playing games we have ever played. But the magic stuff can throw you for a loop at first, especially if you haven’t previously played any similar Soulsborne title. The game has got a magic system that’s very good and interesting once you get the hang of it. You’ve got two magic types in the game: sorceries and incantations. The incantations in Elden Ring are the do-it-all kind of spells; whether you want to toast an enemy, heal yourself up, or give yourself some performance boost, these spells have got you covered. Although these items provide many valuable benefits, you may find it difficult to use them.

You can obtain incantations while wandering through Lands Between or get them from shopkeepers. But you may scratch your head about thinking, “How to cast Incantations incantations to let the magic happen?” For that, you need to have the right stats—once you’ve got that sorted, you need to equip a Sacred Seal – that’s your magic wand for the faith-based incantations. After that, it’s just a matter of selecting the spell from your menu and making sure you’ve got enough FP to use it. This guide will teach you the ins and outs of casting and using incantations.

How to Use & Cast Incantations in Elden Ring

Casting and Using Incantations in Elden Ring

While sorceries are all about how brainy your character is (i.e. Intelligence stat), incantations are more about Faith. Keep in mind that some spells are more special and might ask for some Intelligence as well. The good thing is that every class can use incantations; make sure your stats are up to scratch with what the spell asks for.

There is one thing to remember, only two classes— Prophet and Confessor—wake up from their Elden nap ready to cast these magic spells right from the start. For any other class, you need to first obtain a Sacred Seal to cast incantations.

Here’s the lowdown on equipping that Seal:

  1. Tap the button to peek into your inventory.
  2. Choose a spot to equip for your seal, right hand or left? You decide.
  3. Use the D-pad to shuffle through your items until you find your Seal.
  4. With the Sacred Seal in hand, press the bumper—left for offhand or right for the main hand—the character will use the spells right after that.

If you want to pack a bigger punch, hold down that bumper to charge up your spells, which can make them stronger or even bigger. Furthermore, it’s great for timing—like waiting for the right moment to buff your buddies or heal up. Don’t forget, you’ve got to equip those incantations too. Sit at a Site of Grace, ponder over your spells, and memorize the ones you want to use. You can find Elden Ring incantations all over the place—loot chests, rewards after defeating bosses, or buy from a vendor shop. To switch between spells, press up on the D-Pad. To return to your first spell quickly, hold up on that D-Pad, and you’re there.

When you can’t cast a spell even with Seal in hand, you’re either low on FP or you’re not meeting the stat bar for the spell. No sweat, though, sip some Flask of Cerulean Tears to fill up that FP. If you need more FP to start with, boost your Mind stat. And for the spell requirements, you can check out what stats you need for each spell in your inventory menu. Most of the time, boosting your Faith should do the job.

But remember, you can only equip a few incantations simultaneously. It depends on the number of memory slots available for the spells. Although, the whole journey offers you a lot of slots on different occasions in the game. With that, the more memory slots you own, the more of these items you can equip, cast, and get benefits.

How to Get the Sacred Seal in Elden Ring

Elden Ring Sacred Seal

If you’re not a Confessor or Prophet but want to use incantations in Elden Ring, you need to call Torrent, your trusty horse. He’s essential for getting around the vast world of Elden Ring. Take a trip to Stormveil Castle by riding on a horse. You’ll find the entrance through the Castleward Tunnel, way up in the northwest of Limgrave.

Here, you will encounter Margit – don’t stress either if you win or lose, it isn’t in a process to unlock the Sacred Seal. Once you’ve faced Margit, you’ll meet Melina at a Site of Grace. She’s got the scoop on the Roundtable Hold, which is in the bottom left corner of your map. After reaching the Hold, take a left down the corridor. You’ll pass some bookshelves and you’ll find a cozy little room. Inside, two mummified witches have just what you need: a Finger Seal which is pretty affordable at 800 Runes.

After acquiring the Finger Seal, you will be able to start using incantations. It’s perfect for beginners because it doesn’t ask much of your stats and it scales well with your Faith level when you’re only starting out. But as you venture further into Elden Ring, you’ll stumble upon all sorts of Sacred Seals, each with their own perks and boosts that’ll really improve your spells, especially if you’ve got a specific build in mind.

Best Elden Ring Seals to Cast Incantations

It’s important to understand that all Sacred Seals are capable of casting spells. However, the real magic (pun intended) happens when you match a Sacred Seal to your character’s strongest stats. Because each Seal has a unique affinity with different stats. So, the better the alignment between your stats and your Seal, the stronger your spells become. If you want to enhance your Seal’s ability, consider using Smithing Stones to upgrade it.

Here’s something cool to know: those Sacred Seals you’ll be collecting can actually power up specific types of incantations, and you don’t even have to use them directly for the magic boost. Take the Godslayer’s Seal, for instance, only having it with you amps up your Godskin Apostle incantations’ oomph. If you manage to get your hands on an extra Sacred Seal by trading with another player, you could see your damage bonus shoot up to a solid value.

If you’re all about high-faith Elden Ring builds, then you’ll want to make sure you’re getting the most out of your game spells. One way to do this is by using the Erdtree Seal along with a Sacred Seal that will boost the damage of the specific type of incantation in Elden Ring you’re using. Keep that in mind as you mix and match to find the best combo for your play style.
