Damage Taken from Each Type:
Frequently Asked Questions
The chart shows how effective each attacking type is against defending types. Find the attacking type in the left column and the defending type in the top row. The intersection shows the damage multiplier: Green (2x) = Super Effective, Orange (0.5x) = Not Very Effective, Red (0x) = No Effect, Gray (1x) = Normal Damage.
For Pokemon with dual types, damage is calculated by multiplying the effectiveness against both types. For example, if Fire attacks Grass/Bug, the damage is 2x (Fire vs Grass) × 2x (Fire vs Bug) = 4x total damage. Our calculator automatically computes these complex interactions.
Pokemon type effectiveness uses these multipliers: Super Effective (2x damage), Not Very Effective (0.5x damage), No Effect (0x damage), and Normal Damage (1x damage). These multipliers are applied before other battle calculations like critical hits and STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus).
Fighting, Rock, and Flying types are among the most effective offensively, each being super effective against 3 types. Steel and Fire types are also strong offensive choices. However, the best offensive type depends on your team composition and the current meta.
A balanced team should cover each other's weaknesses. Include Pokemon with diverse types that can handle different threats. Consider having offensive types like Fighting or Rock, defensive types like Steel or Fairy, and utility types like Psychic or Electric. Always check for type synergies and avoid stacking weaknesses.
The most significant change was the introduction of the Fairy type in Generation VI, which is super effective against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark types. Steel types lost their resistance to Ghost and Dark attacks in Generation VI. Generation IX introduced Tera types in Scarlet/Violet, including the new Stellar type, which provides a 1.2x damage boost. These changes significantly impacted competitive play and team building strategies.
Tera types allow Pokemon to change their type during battle through Terastallization. When a Pokemon Terastalizes, it takes on the defensive properties of its Tera type, potentially changing type effectiveness calculations. The new Stellar Tera type provides a 1.2x damage boost once per type per battle. Our calculator includes all 19 Tera types for accurate battle planning.
Many Pokemon abilities can modify type effectiveness. For example, Levitate makes Pokemon immune to Ground-type attacks, Flash Fire makes them immune to Fire-type attacks, and Thick Fat reduces Fire and Ice damage by half. Our calculator includes common abilities like Levitate, Flash Fire, Water Absorb, Volt Absorb, Dry Skin, Thick Fat, and Wonder Guard to provide accurate damage calculations.
Offense mode shows how effective your selected types are when attacking other types - perfect for choosing moves. Defense mode shows how much damage your selected types take from all attacking types - essential for understanding your Pokemon's weaknesses and resistances. Switch between modes to get complete strategic information for team building.
