You’ve infiltrated the Crimson Fleet faction in Starfield, survived the Lock, and now you’re trading prison cells for luxury suites. The Breaking the Bank quest is one of the standout moments in the Crimson Fleet story, which drops you onto a high-end starliner, the Siren of the Stars, to steal credentials for the legendary Legacy ship. However, you have to do it without turning the place into a shooting gallery. Commander Kibwe wants it clean, and the ship’s threat detection system is rigged to lock everything down at the first sign of violence.

You’re undercover, playing both sides between pirates and UC SysDef, and now you have Larry Dumbrosky in sight. The game lets you decide his fate to either kill or spare him, but choosing poorly can turn a smooth heist into a bloodbath. Here’s how to survive the politics, get the loot, and handle the Larry Dumbrosky situation without blowing your cover to complete Breaking the Bank in Starfield.

Starfield Breaking the Bank Quest Walkthrough

Speak with Rokov once onboard the starliner

Once you’ve infiltrated The Lock and proven yourself useful to the Crimson Fleet, you’ll be sent to the luxury starliner Siren of the Stars in the Aranae IV system, where you need to dig up dirt on GalBank and confirm the existence of the legendary ship known as the Legacy. Onboard, you will meet Rokov upstairs, a former faction member trying to claw his way back in. He knows about your plan to rob the place and offers a trade – help him get back into the Fleet’s good graces, and he’ll help you pull off the heist.

Promise to talk to Delgado on his behalf, and Rokov will tell you about the plan. You need to attend the gala event happening onboard and find shady things about Larry Dumbrosky, the ship’s wealthy owner. Rokov will warn you not to kill anyone. The ship’s sensors will trigger a complete lockdown if weapons are fired, ruining your chances of getting the GalBank credentials.

Talk to patrons in the Starview Ballroom

After the chat with Rokov, go upstairs to the Starview Ballroom. Mingle with the NPCs there to dig up dirt on GalBank executive Larry Dumbrosky. Talk to the guests wandering around – nobody really likes him, so they’re pretty eager to gossip. By speaking with the Society Patrons, you will learn two key pieces of intel:

  • Larry is spending a lot of time with a woman named Klaudia Swist, and his wife probably isn’t aware of that.
  • An NPC named Sheila is guarding the Earth Saviour Award.

Talking with Klaudia Twist in Starfield

Follow the quest marker upstairs to reach Klaudia. You can either pay her 2,500 Credits or pass a persuasion check to get her to spill the beans. She’ll point you toward Gabriel Vera, another conspirator in their scheme to defraud GalBank.

Player speaking with Gabriel Vera in Starfield

Find Gabriel near the stage in the Starview Ballroom and speak with him. Before you escalate things with the main target, you have a chance to impress Naeva (and your credit balance) by stealing the Earth Saviour Award. Talk to Sheila in the ballroom. She will be terrified of losing the award, which is locked in the Purser’s Safe. You need her ID to open it.

You can pay or persuade Sheila. I highly recommend saving your game and using the persuasion check to get the ID for free. Go to the Guest Suites, find the Purser’s office, and use the computer to unlock the door. Once inside, use Sheila’s ID on the safe to collect the award. Do not sell this at a Trade Authority kiosk! You’ll hand the Earth Saviour Award to Naeva later for a 6,000 Credit bonus.

After speaking to Gabriel Vera in the ballroom, you’ll realize he won’t talk in public. You need to get him alone. Report back to Rokov, and you’ll hatch a plan to trigger a ship-wide emergency by tampering with the Life Support sensors.

Starfield - player inside the Engineering Deck to trigger emergency alarm

Head to the Engineering Deck and find Chief Engineer Sandin. He won’t let you access the terminal initially, but you can leverage his gambling debt to Rokov. Tell him Rokov will wipe his slate clean if he takes a walk. He’ll step away and give you free rein. Use the computer to open Life Support access, then enter the inner control room and flip the three switches on the terminal to trigger the emergency.

Investigating Gabriel in isolation

With the alarm blare, the guests will retreat to their cabins. Go to Gabriel Vera in the isolation room, then roleplay as either a pirate or a UC agent here, but you’ll likely need to pay him 2,500 credits (or attack him, which I don’t recommend) to get the incriminating evidence against Larry Dumbrosky.

Should You Kill or Spare Larry Dumbrosky?

Starfield - Kill or Spare Larry Dumbrosky

Armed with evidence of embezzlement and affairs, go upstairs to confront Larry Dumbrosky in his cabin, where the game presents you with the option to kill him. We recommend sparing Larry Dumbrosky’s life because there’s no gameplay advantage to killing Dumbrosky.

If you choose violence and kill Larry, things will go south fast. As Rokov warned, the ship sensors will trip, and the entire Siren of the Stars security force will turn hostile. You will have to slaughter your way off the ship and will rack up a massive bounty with the United Colonies. Both UC SysDef and the Crimson Fleet will be unhappy because you came back empty-handed and covered in blood. Commander Ikande will also be angry and chew you out for the bloodbath, and you’ll lose the good reputation you tried to build with Delgado.

If you choose “Fine, let’s negotiate” and spare Larry, it’s a win-win situation. Show him the evidence, and he will agree to hand over his GalBank credentials if you agree to keep his secrets. This way, you’ll walk away with exactly what you came for without bounty and combat. Both factions will also be impressed by your professionalism, and you avoid unnecessary heat from the authorities.

GalBank Archives

Legacy record in Starware operating system

Once you have the credentials, say goodbye to Rokov with a promise to help him out, and travel to the GalBank Archives in New Atlantis. The guards will let you enter with Larry’s credentials, but be ready for a fight inside. A mercenary Ecliptic group will attack you, so kill them first. Access the Lost Ship Registry and select”Legacy” to get solid information about the legendary ship everyone’s been talking about.

With the data secured, return to the Key in the Kryx system. Talk to Delgado and Naeva Mora to debrief. Follow Naeva afterward and hand over the Earth Saviour Award to receive 6000 Credits. Finally, report to Commander Kibwe on the UC Vigilance to conclude the Starfield’s Breaking the Bank quest.
