Zyranium poisoning is one of the annoyances and threats in The Outer Worlds 2 that you need to be very careful with because it can take you to death if not cured on time. One moment you stealth past a group of Protectorate enemies, the next, you cough your lungs out and bleed health by the second. If you ignore it long enough, your character will keel over faster than a faulty automech. Thankfully, Obsidian’s universe gives you a few ways to get back on your feet by curing Zyranium poisoning in Outer Worlds 2, and even better, the method to prevent the poison gas.
What is Zyranium Poisoning in The Outer Worlds 2

Zyranium is a volatile gas you’ll encounter across planets mainly in industrial or Protectorate-controlled areas. It appears as faint golden mist or oily, flame-tinted clouds, and trust me, walking into it is a really bad idea. Stay in it for even a few seconds, and your health will start to drop while your character lets out the signature hacking cough that ruins any chance to stay stealthy. If it remains untreated, the status effect gets worse over time, eventually ending your life. Companions can be of help with their healing skills, but they can’t cure the poison, and that part is on you.
How to Cure Zyranium Gas Poison in The Outer Worlds 2
There are two easy cures for Zyranium gas effects in The Outer Worlds 2: AutoDocs and Doctors. Each works differently, so you should know which is better in the specific situation.
Use an AutoDoc

AutoDocs are the easiest way to clear Zyranium poisoning. These medical stations are across nearly every major location on the planet. Once you interact with an AutoDoc, it fully restores your health, removes all active status effects including Zyranium gas, and refills two inhaler charges for free. Though one AutoDoc only restores the charges once, so you can’t spam them endlessly for free supplies. If you’re on a mission and see one in a corner, pay a visit to it to get rid of Zyranium.
Visit a Doctor
If there’s no AutoDoc nearby, your next option is to go to a Doctor NPC who can be found in cities and settlements across the Halcyon system, and Arcadia is the best place to find them early on. Doctors heal regular damage and any status ailments, including Zyranium poisoning, for a fee. It’s not expensive, but you’ll want to keep a few spare bits in your pockets when you’re short of healing items. If you can’t find a Doctor, ask locals, and they will point you to the nearest clinic or infirmary.
How to Avoid Zyranium Poisoning in The Outer Worlds 2

Once you’ve cured yourself, you should make sure it doesn’t happen again, especially since Zyranium gas is more common as you progress further and further. The best defense against Zyranium is the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus, a gadget that blocks incoming bullets and also creates a barrier against gas and environmental hazards. Once activated, it’ll keep you safe for a short time enough to move through contaminated zones or survive unexpected gas leaks in fights.
You can get the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus by completing the An Aegis Against the Miasma or Zyranium Collector side quest. In Zyranium Collector, you have to help Chief Deviser Delphinia Bryant craft her prototype shield by collecting parts and convincing a stubborn mechanist to hand over a component. Once you return to her with the required items, she rewards you with the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus.
The device costs 70 energy to use once, so you’ll need to manage it carefully — running through gas clouds drains it fast. Zyranium poisoning not only comes from environmental exposure. If you overuse inhalers, it increases your body’s toxicity level, which can also result in gas poisoning. Some flaws in your build accumulate toxicity even faster, so pace your inhaler use and rely more on natural healing or companion heal support when possible.
Some quests, like The Saboteur of Paradise, force you into Zyranium gas-filled areas like the Euphoria Coast or the west bridge near Fairfield. Without protection, these zones are practically death traps. Equip the Gas-Energy Deflection Apparatus to safely pass through these locations. Regularly look at the energy bar; it depletes quickly once you sprint or take damage, and if it runs out mid-way, you’ll take poison damage.
