Zhu Bawan (Jianghu Friend), the renowned Qinghe chef with his strict cooking principles, can be befriended through the AI Chat system in Where Winds Meet. You can win him over if you show great respect for his Four Do-Nots and pretend to give him the eight bowls he needs for his famous Qinghe cuisine. Read this guide on how to befriend Zhu Bawan in the AI Chat in Where Winds Meet.
Where to Find Zhu Bawan in Where Winds Meet

Zhu Bawan can be found on a food stall in Qinghe, just north of Stonewash Strand, east of Moonveil Mountain Wayfarer. When you first reach, he will be standing under a canopy, busy arguing with Wang Queyi. Speak with Zhu Bawan to start the conversation to befriend him. Once you’ve successfully changed his status to Old Friend, you’ll unlock weekly gift rewards from him.
How to Befriend Zhu Bawan
You can befriend Zhu Bawan by listening to his all do-nots cooking rules and giving him eight bowls. You don’t need to collect the physical bowls first; just pretend that you have them during AI chat.

Agree to hear Zhu Bawan out when he asks about his rules.
- First Do-Not: He starts with beef that he never cooks out of respect. Oxen spend their lives pulling plows and working fields. He will not kill them. Reply simply with “Okay, you can’t bear to cook beef.“
- Second Do-Not: He discusses black fish and filial piety. He shares a story about newborn fish feeding their blind mother. Acknowledge it. Say, “Fine, not even black fish.“
- Third Do-Not: Then he explains his rule about wild geese. These birds mate for life. When one dies, the other stays alone for the whole life. Respond with “Yes, you can’t cook wild geese.“
- Fourth Do-Not: The last rule covers dog meat. Dogs guard homes, stay loyal, and don’t abandon their masters. Give this one real weight. Answer him with “Agreed. Dogs should not be betrayed.“
After all four responses, Zhu Bawan will smile and ask about the eight bowls. Hand them over in words, even if they are not in your inventory. Reply with, “Here they are. Give the bowls.” He will apologize for his many rules. He promises to teach the true art of Qinghe cuisine once you bring all the bowls. The conversation ends when he returns to work, and a notification appears: Affection +100, Status turns Revered.
You can finish with a calm, approving nod written out as part of your reply. It often helps to end with success, though results vary because AI conversations can be unpredictable.
Troubleshooting AI Chat Conversations
AI conversations do not always cooperate. If the dialogue derails or Zhu Bawan rejects your replies, reset the chat using the refresh button at the chat box’s top. Try one approach at once and reset between attempts. That works better than forcing a broken exchange.
Often, NPCs turn hostile during AI chat. If Zhu Bawan becomes aggressive, log out to the login screen right away. When you log back in, he will stand at his stall as if nothing happened. Do not kill NPCs connected to dialogue. They can respawn, but risking the quest is not worth it.
Check the hint text at the top of the chat window every time. Even if Zhu Bawan seems satisfied, the dialogue will not close until you meet the real win condition. The hint tells you what the game wants, so adjust your responses accordingly to take the conversation to the finish line.
