How to Get Faydown Cloak Double Jump in Hollow Knight: Silksong

Survive the icy gauntlet of Mount Fay and claim the Double Jump to change game's course.

The Faydown Cloak in Hollow Knight: Silksong is Hornet’s version of the Monarch Wings from the first game. It unlocks her Double Jump (which is always a turning point in a Metroidvania), a mid-to-late game upgrade that not only frees up exploration but also protects you from Pharloom’s brutal cold winds and allows access to locations that are impossible otherwise. The game teases its worth long before you get it, mainly in places where one jump isn’t enough to continue the journey. But it’s not available early game; you can unlock the Silksong Faydown Cloak later in Act 2 in Mount Fay.

Where to Find Faydown Cloak in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The Faydown Cloak can be found at the very top of Mount Fay, a snowy region on the western edge of Pharloom. It connects to The Slab and sits past the Citadel, so reaching it requires a fair chunk of progress.

Hornet captured in prison The Slab in Silksong

Once you allow yourself to get captured in Act 1 and thrown into prison in The Slab area, you might have glimpsed icy terrain, but you won’t be able to cross it until much later. To get access to this location, you’ll need two key requirements first:

You have to break the prison through attacks to escape, and then continue your journey in The Slab, moving towards Mount Fay.

How to Unlock the Clawline Grappling Hook

Silksong Clawline Grappling Hook

There are two ways you can get the hook:

  • Fight Trobbio in the Choral Chambers: Beat him in the stage area to earn Clawline. This is the faster route, but Trobbio is no pushover, so if you struggle to beat it, try the other option.
  • White Key into the Underworks: Head to Songclave (top-right of the Citadel) and get the White Key. Use the key at the elevator console to activate it to go down to Whiteward, push through the east side of the Underworks, and explore The Cauldron. The Clawline waits there, no boss required.

Once you obtain the Grappling Hook in whatever way, go to The Slab, then take the left path from the Bell Beast station to reach Mount Fay.

Mount Fay Dangers to Avoid

Silksong Mount Fay

Mount Fay doesn’t throw enemies in front, but it’s about sheer survival. The mountain continuously saps your health if you linger outside of glowing lamps or fires for more than 15 seconds. That timer resets whenever you reach one of the safe spots, so string together movement abilities fast enough to reach the next lamp without falling apart.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Environmental hazards: Crumbling walls that vanish under your grip, spikes everywhere, and gaps designed for pogo bounces.
  • Traversal test: You’ll be chaining Wall Jumps, Swift Step, Clawline grapples, and enemy pogoing almost non-stop.
  • Long stretches: There are only three benches across the whole climb, and one of them costs 90 Rosaries to unlock.
  • Freeze pressure: If messed up, you’ll either need to sprint forward in panic or retreat back to the last lamp to reset the cold timer.

It’s not a fight-heavy region; it’s a gauntlet meant to test whether you’ve completely learned the movement system.

Bench & Progress Notes

Benches are your lifelines in Mount Fay. There are only three:

  • Near Shakra at the base.
  • The 90 Rosaries Bench halfway up. If you don’t pay for this, you just gamble your time, so unlock it.
  • Right side of the mountain, closer to the summit.

You should bring at least 130 Rosaries: 40 for the area’s map, 90 for the bench, and anything extra can be spent on tools and recovery items. There are also a couple of shortcuts, with one a hidden bench behind a false wall in the second ice cave. Smash through to unlock it. The climb eventually sends you through two ice caves, where you’ll grapple and pogo enemies constantly. Patience here is key; rushing gets you spiked.

Tools and Crests

You don’t need to overthink loadouts here as it’s mostly platforming, but a couple of things make it easy going. The most useful tools and crests for the climb on Mount Fay include:

  • Weavelight – Speeds up silk regeneration, good for repeated Clawline Ancestral Art use since it drains silk fast.
  • Druid’s Eye – Restores silk when you take hits, handy if you encounter grapple enemies and need silk back quickly.
  • Blue Tools in general – You don’t need much combat help, so prioritize survivability and silk recovery.
  • Crests – It’s up to you if you use them, but Hunter or Wanderer works well for pogo recovery.

Also, keep Mask Shards or healing Tools ready to use, lamps give you time to patch up between stretches.

Silksong Faydown Cloak Double Jump Location

Silksong Faydown Cloak Double Jump Location

After the long gauntlet, you’ll reach a tuning fork mechanism at the top of Mount Fay. Interact with it, play your Needolin, and a massive bird swoops in to give Hornet the Faydown Cloak. From this moment, Hornet can double jump. On top of that, the cloak shields her from Mount Fay’s cold, meaning you can actually backtrack here without worrying about the freeze timer.

What Double Jump Unlocks

The Faydown Cloak is one of the biggest power spikes in Silksong. It not only makes platforming easier but also opens up whole new regions. Areas gated behind vertical gaps or mid-air adjustments are now accessible. Some key places you can reach after obtaining it are:

  • Memorium
  • Upper Cogwork Core
  • Sands of Karak
  • Progression toward the Three Melodies main quest

From this point on, the world will be more widely open, and exploration will become far less restrictive for you in Hollow Knight: Silksong.
