How to Get Shaman Crest in Hollow Knight: Silksong

The tricky ceiling secret that unlocks Hornet’s spell damage boost.

Shaman Crest is one of the most sought-after Crests in Hollow Knight: Silksong. Like in the original Hollow Knight, it upgrades spell-focused playstyles by increasing your magic damage. Players who need high-damage spell builds will want to secure it as early as possible, but unlike other Crests, its location is a mystery so far as the majority don’t know where to find the Shaman Crest. So, this guide covers what the Shaman Crest does, how to find it, and make the most of it in your Silksong journey.

Where to Find the Shaman Crest in Silksong

According to one user mentioned on the Steam community, Shaman Crest can be found behind a hidden ceiling passage in the church with snail shamans that you can only reach once you’ve unlocked the Super Jump ability. Progress into Act 3, where Super Jump becomes available. This movement skill lets Hornet launch upward to break into vertical spaces that you can’t reach otherwise.

In one of the later Shellwood-adjacent zones, there’s a chamber with a false ceiling. Without Super Jump, it looks like an ordinary room. With it, you can leap up through the hidden hole to reveal a tucked-away chamber. Inside, you’ll find the Shaman Crest waiting to be picked.

Shaman Crest Affects

Shaman Crest increases the power of Hornet’s spell abilities particularly Silk skills, and allows her to cast the blade forward. It’s good for anyone who:

  • Prefer casting from a distance instead of committing to risky melee exchanges.
  • Want to burn down bosses with Thread Storm or Silkspear more quickly.
  • Need extra damage output to clear arenas clogged with enemies or vines.

It doesn’t affect your basic needle strikes, so if you fight melee, you can pair it with other Crests. But for hybrid or magic-heavy builds, this is the single best early-to-mid game Crest you can obtain in Silksong. For context:

  • Reaper Crest — modifies needle attacks, slow but powerful swings.
  • Warding Bell — defensive shield during heals.
  • Shaman Crest — pure spell power upgrade, lets you kill mobs faster.

It’s the spellcaster’s answer to the Reaper Crest’s melee buff, so deciding between them depends on what playstyle you prefer and your personal choice.

Since this Crest directly buffs Thread abilities, AoE attacks like Thread Storm get a huge damage spike, which lets you clear vines and flying enemies with minimal risk. A buffed Silkspear can one-shot certain miniboss summons, making tough fights more manageable. Shaman Crest doesn’t help your defense, so consider slotting another Crest like Warding Bell once you struggle to heal safely during fight.
