The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered Azani Blackheart Walkthrough

Track down Azani Blackheart and clear the Guild’s name.

The Azani Blackheart quest in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered kicks off when things start to get shady in the Fighters Guild storyline and is the fifth quest Modryn Oreyn gives you in Chorrol. Oreyn is trying to get the information about the Blackwood Company, and he’s not happy about what he has found. He suspects something’s off about their claim that they killed the Azani Blackheart, and he wants your help proving it. That’s why he asks you to dig further into it to find more about the details and what shady things the company is doing.

Oblivion Remastered Azani Blackheart Quest Walkthrough

After completing the “More Unfinished Business” quest, you’ll unlock this next Fighters Guild mission. Head over to Chorrol to talk with the Modryn Oreyn. He doesn’t want to talk in public or at guild, given what he is about to drop on you. He’ll ask to meet at his house at night, but you don’t have to wait till sundown – you can go to his home unless he is there.

Talking to Modryn Oreyn - Oblivion Remastered Azani Blackheart

During the conversation, you will find out that the Blackwood Company claimed they killed Azani Blackheart during a mission that went south for the Fighters Guild. Fifteen men went in, only five came out. One of the fallen was Vitellus Donton, the son of the Fighters Guild head, Vilena Donton. Modryn suspects the Blackwood Company lied and might’ve even made a deal with Azani instead of killing him. So, he wants you to help him get to the bottom of it.

Leyawiin map location - Oblivion Remastered Azani Blackheart

Your first destination is Leyawiin, where you’ll meet Modryn again at the local Fighters Guild. He’ll mark Arpenia, an old Ayleid ruin northeast of town. Go to the cave’s center; it’s a pretty chill spot—only a few rats, some loot chest, and not much else. Once inside, poke around until Modryn realizes the place is empty. There’s a little trigger zone in the northeast room you might need to step into to get him to update the quest.

With Arpenia a bust, Modryn suspects Azani relocated to Atatar, another nearby ruin. From there, walk with Modryn, but don’t fast-travel or leave him behind, or you may see bugs that make the quest unfinishable. If you leave him behind by moving fast, he will stop unless you are close to him.

Killing a bandit inside Atatar - Oblivion Remastered Azani Blackheart

Atatar is a multi-zone dungeon filled with bandits, traps, and a winding layout with four levels. There are a few paths through the ruin, and eventually, you’ll end up in Atatar Loria, where Azani Blackheart is holed up on the fourth section of Atatar. Modryn might get tripped up on a crumbling bridge trap or take a weird route. Don’t worry too much—he’s important in this quest and won’t die. Even if he gets lost, he will usually catch up, or you can meet him later. Inside, the place is crawling with enemies, but you can avoid getting swarmed by taking it slow. Modryn can help absorb damage, but he won’t finish the fight for you.

Oblivion Remastered Azani Blackheart fight

The final showdown with Azani Blackheart is tough; he is a high-level nightblade, with a complete Elven armor set and wielding the enchanted sword Sinweaver, which dishes out fire damage and drains fatigue. There will also be skeletons for his help so take care of them first to focus on the main enemy.

Once Azani is defeated, loot his ring but don’t pick it up before the quest updates Azani’s death, or Modryn won’t recognize it. This is a quest item, and without it, you can’t complete the mission. You can also collect his gear, especially the Elven cuirass, which can come in handy for other quests later on. After that, find Modryn and hand over the ring as evidence that the Fighters Guild, not the Blackwood Company, took out Azani or that you have killed Blackheart. You can give it to him right there or catch up with him later in Chorrol.

For the quest rewards, you’ll get promotion in the Fighters Guild to the rank of Warder, an increase in Fame, and receive some good loot if you explore Atatar fully. There’s a hidden area with three Varla Stones you can unlock by triggering a hidden push-block. Anyway, that’s a wrap for the Azani Blackheart quest in Oblivion Remastered.
