Fortnite has been around for eight years now, which is exciting when you think about it. What started as a base-defense game in 2017 is now a cultural Battle Royale juggernaut that throws its own birthday party every September. True to tradition, the island is filled once again with oversized cakes, balloons floating around, and a handful of limited-time Birthday quests that double as both celebration and grind.
Other than XP grind, this year’s birthday event comes with exclusive cosmetics you won’t see again once the candles are blown out. But these rewards are locked behind the quests, with some being laughably simple (pressing a button for the bus driver), while others depend on RNG and some patience. The event is only live for a short window until September 30, 2025, so if you want the rewards, you’ll need to hustle.
Here’s the full breakdown on how to complete all the birthday quests in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 4, get the freebies, and maybe eat a questionable amount of digital cake along the way.
All Birthday Quests in Fortnite Chapter 6, Season 4, and How to Complete
Search Containers Before Damaging a Single Player in a Match
This one’s Fortnite’s idea of a birthday scavenger hunt. You need to open eight containers (chests or ammo boxes) in a single match before you damage another player. If you take a shot too early, progress resets.
The easiest strategy is to land away from the hot-drop spots and head straight to out of the way POIs like Resistance Base, Outpost Enclave, or First Order Base. These places are stuffed with loot but not nearly as popular, giving you space to hunt for containers with less chance of getting third-partied. Thankfully, any type of chest including rare, ammo also count in the collection, so it won’t take long to complete the challenge.
Dance by a Birthday Cake Found at Named Locations
Fortnite literally wants you to dance at the party. Around named locations, you’ll spot big birthday cakes surrounded by smaller glowing slices. All you need to do is emote standing near that birthday cake once. It doesn’t have to be a dance as any emote does the job. Popular cake spawn points are Supernova Academy and OXR HQ, but most major POIs will have one.
Throw Birthday Presents!
Birthday presents are Legendary rarity loot items that spawn about as often as llama sightings. They can appear anywhere including floor loot, chests, rare chests, OXR chests, supply drops, or any loot source on the island. The more chests you open, the better your odds.
Once you find the present, pick it up and throw it on the ground, and then strike it with a knife to break it. The gift explodes into a giant box full of goodies usually a high-rarity weapon, ammo, sometimes balloons, and other random treats. To finish the quest, you’ll need to throw three separate birthday presents, which is easier said than done given their rarity.
Ascend to 80 Meters Using Balloons
You’ll need to inflate three balloons to rise 80 meters into the sky, but it requires finding balloons first (they drop as floor loot, from chests, or rarely from presents). Once you’re flying in the air, just wait as the balloons do the work. Don’t panic about fall damage either; cut them off one by one on the way down and keep at least a single balloon on back to land safely.
Eat Slices of Birthday Cake Found at Named Locations
The next birthday quest is the task to eat eight slices of birthday cake. Around each large cake at POIs, there are plates with glowing blue slices ready to be gobbled up. Each restores 10 health or 10 shields, so you’ll need to be missing some to eat them. If you can’t eat all eight in one go, don’t worry. This quest tracks across matches, so land near a birthday cake at the start or get a few slices here and there until it’s done.
Wish the Bus Driver a Happy Birthday
The easiest quest of the bunch, thank the bus driver with the greeting emote button. It’s B on PC, Down on the D-pad on console, and on mobile, it’s the emote button. Press the key before you leave the bus to wish the driver a happy birthday, and the quest completes.
Fortnite Birthday Quest Rewards
Each birthday quest you finish gives 5,000 XP, which is nice padding for your Battle Pass grind. But the actual reason to do them is the rare event-exclusive items. This year, the lineup includes:
- “You’re 8!” Spray
- Anniversary Axe Pickaxe
- Slurpfinity Cake Back Bling
Most of the quests are straightforward (dancing, cake-munching, balloon joyrides), but the birthday presents are the real headache thanks to their rarity. Your best bet is to land at POIs with heavy loot, avoid fights, and loot like a raccoon in a dumpster until you see the golden glow. Take on the other quests while you search, and you’ll have everything collected before the event ends in Fortnite.
