Epic continuously introduces free cosmetics in Fortnite when you least expect it, and update v37.20 has done the same. Alongside the Kai Cenat skin and some quest fixes, a brand-new cosmetic appeared in the Quests tab: the De-Rezz De-Stroyer Pickaxe. You don’t need to spend a single V-Buck to grab it, but you’ll have to act before September 24, 2025, or it will be gone from the free track. How to Unlock the Fortnite De-Rezz De-Stroyer Pickaxe
De-Rezz De-Stroyer pickaxe is available to collect from a short quest set, and you only need to finish one of two quests to claim it:
- Win two matches in Fortnite Reload (either regular or Zero Build)
- Earn 10 Account Levels in any Fortnite mode

Win Matches in Reload
Reload is still one of the most popular modes since it brings back classic locations and respawns, so you’ll always find plenty of lobbies. If you’re confident in your aim and rotations, two wins shouldn’t take long. The new Solo playlist makes this even easier for those who prefer to rely on their own skills instead of random teammates. Play aggressive, take advantage of the small map, and you’ll likely get two quick Victory Royales.
Earn Account Levels
If sweating in Reload isn’t to your liking, the best way is to grind 10 Account Levels. That means about 800,000 XP total, which you can earn by:
- Clearing weekly and daily quests
- Playing long BR sessions with survival bonuses
- Entering creative XP maps (some are designed only to level fast)
This method takes longer, but it’s consistent as you don’t have to rely on lobby luck or carry squads to get the reward.
The free De-Rezz De-Stroyer can be unlocked until September 24, 2025. After that, it will rotate into the Item Shop at some point, though nobody knows exactly when. So if you want it without investing money, don’t wait too long. Fortnite doesn’t often hand out free melee cosmetics, and this pickaxe is a clean design that seems good to swing.
