In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, the landscape might have shifted to Mexico and Australia, but the world still runs on connections and Chiral Crystals. These golden anomalies are a cornerstone of the game’s crafting, weight management, and infrastructure systems. To patch up a bridge, prep for BT combat, or want to haul more cargo without breaking your back, Chiral Crystals are your lifeline. But these items aren’t always in plain sight, and without good attention, you’ll either miss them completely or waste your precious time grinding in the wrong places. This guide cuts through the fog and tells you where to find Death Stranding 2 Chiral Crystals.
What are Chiral Crystals?
Mechanically, Chiral Crystals are a lightweight (literally weightless in inventory) resource you’ll find across the game world. They’re the currency of the Chiral Network—a material for the fabric of reality in Kojima’s strand-based universe. For every 1,000cg (Chiral grams), Sam’s cargo load reduces by 1kg. It’s an invisible buff that lets you carry more without actually “carrying” more. And when it comes to fabrication or upgrading structures, they’re just as critical as metals and resins.
How to Get Chiral Crystals in Death Stranding 2
You’ll encounter Chiral Crystals naturally while exploring Death Stranding 2‘s map, but if you want to stockpile them for heavy crafting, here’s where to look and what to do.
Environmental Spawns
Chiral Crystals form in the world as strange golden handprints on the ground (ghostly remnants of BT activity). These are usually small clusters but easy to harvest: simply walk up and interact. Odradek Scanner reveals them clearly, so keep scanning the areas in dense foliage. But not all locations are created equal. Timefall zones, mainly post-storm, are rich with Chiral growth. The denser the Timefall activity, the thicker the crystal patches. These aren’t linked to quests or events, but you’ll often find them while running deliveries.
Defeat BTs
If you’re willing to dance with the dead, defeating BTs remains one of the most lucrative ways to get Chiral Crystals. Every BT leaves behind a crystal when it’s defeated, and the bigger the BT, the larger the drop. Boss BTs are jackpots, so if you see a chance to fight one without wasting too many resources—or risking a Voidout—it’s often worth it just for the haul.
Tip: Don’t clear a BT zone too early if you’re low on Chiral Crystals. Leave some ghosts for later farming.
Tar Zones and Mines
Australia’s map, particularly the tar pits and underground mines, offers high-density Chiral farming zones. The mines are covered in thick tar deposits and usually regenerate crystals over time. However, they’re brutal on your gear. Footwear will degrade quickly, and your vehicle’s battery drains alarmingly fast in tar. If you go crystal diving here, it’s recommended to do it on foot and bring backup boots.

Less Conventional, But Still Good Sources for Chiral Crystals Farm
Visit any Chiral Network-connected settlement, head to the terminal, and check under “Claim Materials”. Most locations will have a small stash of Chiral Crystals available. While this won’t get you rich, it’s a handy supplement, especially when you’re short a few hundred grams for that next bridge upgrade.
Further after long treks, Sam’s body accumulates Chiralium, which is extracted during a shower in your Private Room. You’ll occasionally gain small amounts of Chiral Crystals automatically this way. Just don’t abuse it; taking multiple showers without any exploration in between yields nothing. Last but not least is a weirder method, rescued animals in shelters produce waste with traces of Chiralium. From time to time, you’ll find small amounts of Chiral Crystals here, too.
Tips to Farm More Chiral Crystals
Don’t waste Crystals on pre-network upgrades. Always wait until an area is connected to the Chiral Network before committing your stash. Otherwise, you might be duplicating effort already done by other players.
Always carry some Chiral Crystals. Not only do they help reduce your load, but they’re also required when crafting BT gear or temporary structures in the field.
Set up ziplines near BT zones and tar pits. It makes return trips much easier when you’re on a Chiral run.
North of West Fort Knot is a sweet spot. A tar swamp under the monorail consistently spawns large clusters. It’s one of the few repeatable, high-yield farming routes worth bookmarking.
