Hogwarts Legacy: How to Change Your Character Appearance

Pink hair and good eyebrows is only a few galleons away.

Created your character in Hogwarts Legacy but thinking of customizing its look? You’re not stuck with your original choices. Although you can’t change everything after the game begins, there’s a lot for appearance you can tweak including hairstyles, hair color, complexion, eye color, and more. After reaching Hogsmeade, you’ll unlock access to Madam Snelling’s Tress Emporium, where you can give your witch or wizard a fresh new look for a small fee. Here’s how character appearance changes work in Hogwarts Legacy and what parts of your character can and can’t be customized after creation.

How to Change Hogwarts Legacy Character Appearance

Hogwarts Legacy Hogsmeade City Location

You can’t change the character’s look until you reach Hogsmeade for the first time. Once you’re past the tutorial and have access to the full map, you can finally take the mop of hair to a professional.

Makeovers in the wizarding world can be done at Madam Snelling’s Tress Emporium, on the northwestern side of Hogsmeade. You’ll spot the building by the classic barbershop scissors icon on the map. Simply visit the hairdresser, talk to Madam Snelling, and give your wizard or wizardy a new appearance for a 20 Galleons service fee.

You can’t change everything; this isn’t Skyrim modded with sliders for days. But you do get access to a solid set of cosmetic tweaks. Available character appearance changes in Hogwarts Legacy include:

  • Hair Color
  • Hairstyle
  • Freckles and Moles
  • Scars and Markings
  • Complexion
  • Eye Color
  • Eyebrow Color
  • Eyebrow Shape

Inside Madam Snelling’s menu, you’ll see a screen similar to the character creator you used at the game’s start, with a few things grayed out. Here’s what’s locked and can’t be changed after creation:

  • Face shape
  • Skin tone
  • Voice tone
  • Body type (witch/wizard dorm assignment)

These core choices are baked into your save file and can’t be reversed, so whatever you picked in the beginning is what you’re stuck with. That said, most players won’t miss the face-shape changes because the hairstyle, eyebrows, and eye color do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to defining your look.

There’s some confusion for newbies around character appearance and gear appearance; they’re not the same thing. If you stop your character from wearing the hideous Legendary hat you found, head to the Gear menu. From there, you can change the appearance of each clothing slot without affecting the actual gear bonuses.

You can basically “transmog” your outfit to look how you want, while still getting advantages from the stats of powerful gear. So yes, you can wear full dragonhide armor and still look like you’re headed to a formal dinner.
