While looting across Tau Ceti IV in Marathon, you’ll find an item called Schema. The first time I picked one up, I assumed it was just another sellable piece. Turns out it’s much more useful than that. Schemas are limited blueprints that unlock gear in your Armory. Extract with one, and you’ll get access to specific weapons or equipment you normally wouldn’t have in your loadout. If you’re playing around new builds or want backup weapons under the hood after a bad run, Marathon’s Schemas are one of the most valuable pieces of loot to get. Here’s how.

What are Schemas in Marathon?

Marathon Schema

Schema is a high-tech voucher or a limited run blueprint for a free weapon or a piece of gear. Each one is hardcoded to a specific item, such as a Magnum MC or a V85 Circuit Breaker Shotgun. Unlike standard loot that you equip and go, Schema acts as a key that unlocks a set number of purchases in your Armory. The name on the tag tells what weapon or item you will receive.

Other than guns, keep your eyes peeled for Implants and Cores as well. Once you have a Schema, it’ll appear in your Armory under the Schemas tab. It stays in the menu, doesn’t take up space in your vault, and is a way to stash good gear for later.

Schema weapons usually cost 15,000 Credits and only last for two or three uses. Once you hit that limit, the item will be gone from the Armory. Schema rarities matter here because the higher the rarity, the better the gear attached. Before you buy one, check its description to see what’s in the kit and how many charges you’ll get, so you don’t waste Credits on something that will break.

How to Get Schema in Marathon

Schema in Marathon

There are two ways to get Schemas in Marathon:

  • On-Site Extraction — Schemas drop from weapon-focused loot containers like Arms Lockers, weapon bins, and Tool Carts out on the maps of Tau Ceti IV. The spawn isn’t guaranteed, but they can be found across all maps. Schemas have different rarities, and while any free gear is good, the blue-tier ones are worth risking an exfil for. Remember, if you don’t make it to the extraction point, that Schema will stay on the planet because there’s no Safe Pocket in Marathon to secure your valuable loot.
  • Rewards Pass — Every season’s Rewards Pass includes a few Schemas you can unlock using Silk, the in-game currency earned through normal play. Most Schemas cost between 20 and 30 Silk and are available on the free track, so you don’t necessarily need the premium pass to earn them.

How to Use Schema in Marathon

If you buy Schema from the Rewards Pass, it will instantly register in your account. Any Schema you find during a run won’t activate until you successfully exfil with it. If you die before extraction, it will disappear from your inventory, just like any other loot.

To turn that digital blueprint into a physical weapon, go to the Armory tab in the Loadout menu and enter the Schemas section on the right side of the screen. You’ll see the available blueprints and how many uses or vouchers each has (usually around three). The weapon, implant, or core attached to your Schema will be listed for purchase with Credits. Until you remove the item to your vault or equip it for a run, it will remain in the Armory without consuming inventory space.
