Few side quests in Baldur’s Gate 3 reveal the game’s mix of mystery and danger as clearly as the quest Investigate the Suspicious Toys. What begins with angry refugees in Rivington leads to hidden shipments, rigged teddy bears, and the fireworks shop at the heart of the plot: Felogyr’s Fireworks. This guide will tell everything about how to investigate the Suspicious Toys in Felogyr’s Fireworks in BG3, uncover Arfur Gregorio’s basement secrets, and shut down the Banite bomb-makers to save everyone.
Baldur’s Gate 3 Investigate the Suspicious Toys Quest
The thread that leads you to Felogyr’s Fireworks starts in early Act 3, when you arrive in Rivington, the district just before the Lower City. Outside Arfur Gregorio’s house, you’ll encounter a group of angry refugees confronting him. They accuse him of handing out toys that turn out to be dangerous explosives.
Break into his house’s basement, where you’ll find a big trapped chest in the southeast corner. Inside is a letter that proves Arfur’s involvement in toy shipments and points toward a broader conspiracy. Reading this is what locks the quest Investigate the Suspicious Toys into your journal.
Next, go to the nearby Requisitioned Barn, where you’ll find Manip Nestor guarding the area inside.
- Through successful Persuasion, Intimidation, or Deception checks, you can convince Nestor to let you look around.
- At the back of the barn, investigate the teddy bear toys rigged with explosives, further confirming the sabotage. Interacting with the toys updates your quest log.
With the conspiracy revealed, go and meet Arfur Gregorio at Sharess’ Caress, the pleasure house in Rivington. Using the evidence in hand, you can push him for answers about where the toys are coming from, and then he admits that the real source is Felogyr’s Fireworks.
How to Investigate Felogyr’s Fireworks in Baldur’s Gate 3
Felogyr’s Fireworks is located southwest of the Basilisk Gate waypoint, above the Heapside Strand. The building is marked with a quest icon on the map, so it’s hard to miss. This shop is the true heart of the operation, where Banite cultists and their allies are secretly mass-producing weaponized toys for Gortash’s forces.
Head inside through the double doors and talk to Avery Sonshal, the shop’s master fireworker and front-facing proprietor. He is polite but evasive and also carries a tadpole if you notice, so it reveals its ties to the Absolute’s influence.
Use the password “Uncle Felogyr sent me” that you received from Arfur Gregorio in dialogue with Avery, then he’ll treat you as a trusted True Soul and allow you to pass into the restricted second floor. In case of no password or failed dialogue checks, the other way forward is through stealth, magical movement (Misty Step, Fly), or direct fight.
In whatever way, go upstairs to the second floor through the door right in front main shop entrance and find Avery’s Storage Key behind the desk, which unlocks a cellar later. Merchants here will trade, but they block your way to the third floor, where the actual bomb-making happens. Use the Invisibility spell to move past them to go upstairs, teleport in from outside through a third-floor window, or kill them.
On the top portion, cultists and alchemists are working alongside Banite loyalists, and they won’t allow you to inspect their work. Entering the area, whether by sneaking in or fighting your way up, will force combat. Invisibility, Fly, or Misty Step can bypass the guards, but being spotted upstairs will instantly aggro the entire building, including guards outside. If you attack upstairs or fail to get past without revealing yourself, you have to kill everyone in the building in a full-scale battle.
Fight Inside Felogyr’s Fireworks
This fight is unavoidable if you want to complete the quest, as Baldur’s Gate 3 currently has no other non-violent way. Every hostile NPC in the building must be defeated.
Though the crowd is massive to deal with, you can use the environment to your advantage:
- Powder Barrels: Second and third floors are stocked with smokepowder barrels. Shoot them or use fire-based spells (Fire Bolt, Fireball, etc.) to create chain reactions to have instant multiple enemies wipe.
- Pre-Battle Advantage: Send one party member upstairs under Invisibility, and detonate the barrels along the southern wall to thin enemy numbers before the main chaos.
- Free Sample: Speak with Avery about Gortash before the battle, and he then hands you a Smokepowder Arrow, which you can use to ignite explosives.
The fight is tight and chaotic, so keep party members spread out to avoid chain explosions, and use crowd-control spells to manage waves of cultists. Once everyone is dead, you can freely search the building:
- Avery Sonshal’s Body: Loot for Counting House Vault Key #5 and the Cellar Key.
- Bomb-Maker Tomboldt the Pallid: Carries notes about the Iron Throne prison.
- Basement: With Avery’s cellar key, access his stash of fireworks, smokepowder, and other valuables.
- General Loot: Gold, explosives, arrows, and unique crafting materials from the floors.
Getting the wind of the fight, Flaming Fist soldiers and a Steel Watcher will also turn aggressive, so deal with the second fight after the interior battle ends. Once they are killed, the toy operation is shut down, and the journal entry for Investigate the Suspicious Toys will be marked complete. There is no formal hand-in or reward beyond what you loot, and the refugees in Rivington are safe once the source of the explosive toys is destroyed.
