You will often hit the moment in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach where your trusty bike or Off-Roader can’t cut it anymore because the slopes are too steep, the snow’s knee-deep, and your cargo is one bad step away from tumbling off a cliff. When none of the travel facilities will help Sam to continue the delivery, usually to climb the mountains, the Climbing Power Gloves allow climb the terrains.
Death Stranding 2 doesn’t pull punches when it comes to terrain. Some missions will send you deep into mountainous regions, with barely a decent foothold in sight. You can try to brute-force your way up using ladders or vehicles with spike tires, but it’s not efficient. At such times, these gloves improve your grip strength, climb speed, and help you grab cargo from a distance, which comes in handy when you’re dangling from a ledge and a parcel just slipped off your back. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get Climbing Power Gloves in Death Stranding 2 and why they’re worth it.
How to Get the Climbing Power Gloves (Main Order 37)
To get access to the gloves, you first need to make your way through some part of the story until you reach Main Order 37. In this order, you will be sent to rescue the Adventurer—a stranded NPC stuck in the icy mountain region.
You will be assigned to locate and help the Adventurer in a remote, snow-covered zone. Climb your way through slippery terrain to deliver his lost cargo and get him connected to the Chiral Network using your Q-Pid. Once that connection is established, you’ll hit Connection Level 1 with the Adventurer’s facility, and that’s when you unlock the blueprint for the Climbing Power Gloves (Level 1).
How to Craft the Climbing Power Gloves in Death Stranding 2
Once you’ve unlocked the blueprint, you can craft the gloves at any delivery terminal. Thankfully, they don’t require anything too rare. Here’s what you’ll need for Level 1 Gloves:
- 60 Resins
- 30 Metals
- 10 Special Alloys
These materials are fairly standard, and you probably have had them since Chapter 2. So crafting the Climbing Power Gloves right after unlocking them shouldn’t be a problem.
Although the basic Climbing Power Gloves are great, you can get their upgraded version, and for that, complete Standard and Sub-Orders for the Adventurer. Once your Connection Level reaches 3, you’ll unlock the Level 2 Climbing Power Gloves. These upgraded gloves come with increased durability, faster climbing speeds, and less stamina drain on slopes. They’re mainly useful in missions where weight, weather, and time are all working against you.
One special bonuse of these gloves is how they interact with vehicles. If you’re riding a Pickup Off-Roader, the gloves let you snatch up lost cargo from the ground by sitting in the vehicle.
Alternatives to Climbing Gloves
There are other ways to handle mountain traversal, but none are quite as convenient. Unlocked after connecting the Mechanic post-Order 29, the Coffin Board is good for moving through rough ground, but it only works within Chiral Network zones. Once you complete Order 41 and connect South Fort Knot, the Spiked Tires for vehicles will be unlocked. This helps with traction on snow and slopes, but it’s still not as reliable as climbing with gloves.
