Elden Ring Nightreign Patch Will Fix Matchmaking, Solo Mode Gets a Buff

FromSoftware responds to launch issues with patch plans and player updates.

Elden Ring: Nightreign launched on May 30 across all major platforms including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC. As much eagerness as players had to jump into FromSoftware’s latest challenge, things didn’t go as expected. Matchmaking issues especially on PlayStation consoles have frustrated the community, and solo players faced a steeper hill than expected. Fortunately, FromSoftware is already working on solutions.

Nightreign’s Matchmaking is Meltdown

Shortly after release, players noticed problems connecting to others in co-op sessions. FromSoftware acknowledged the issue on Twitter (X), mainly addressing PlayStation 4 and 5 systems. According to their tweet, players using NAT Type 3 most probably encounter difficulty joining matches through PlayStation Network.

The temporary fix is to check and change their NAT type through the console’s network settings: Home > Settings > Network > Connection Status > Check Connection Status.

If that doesn’t help, restarting the matchmaking is the fallback suggestion for now. No permanent fix or major patch has been announced yet, and there’s no actual mention of how or if this affects other platforms.

Solo Expedition Fixes Will Soon

Other than the matchmaking notes, FromSoftware also shared details about a patch in the works that will make solo expeditions more manageable and easier to survive. Coming sometime next week, Patch 1.02 will introduce two key changes:

  • Automatic Revival on Defeat in single-player expeditions
  • Increased rune rewards for players tackling content solo

As many players have pointed out, going it alone in Nightreign currently is way harder than playing with teammates, and these tweaks are meant to ease that gap without removing the core challenge.

Although the upcoming patch is more lean on solo improvements, fans are still asking for more quality-of-life updates. A two-player co-op mode, better in-game communication, and crossplay are some of the most requested features. FromSoftware has acknowledged some of these suggestions and may consider them in future updates.

Nightreign Received 2 Million Players and Still Climbing

Despite these launch issues, Nightreign is crushing it in the numbers department. Over 2 million players jumped in within 24 hours of release. On Steam alone, the game peaked at 300,000 concurrent players in its first hour. That’s not just impressive—that’s “crash the servers and brag about it later” impressive.

It’s also currently the second-highest selling game on Steam, just behind whatever new flavor of dopamine Valve is pushing this month. That’s not bad for a game that can’t decide whether you’re allowed to play with your friends.
