After making it to Zhenwu Temple or anywhere deep into the Despair-affected zones of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, you will know how brutal this status effect is. Despair builds silently and fast, and the moment the bar fills, you die instantly. The only way to cure Despair in Wuchang in its tracks is with one item: the Mind Lotus Seed. Here’s everything about this item’s effects, uses, and how to get Mind Lotus Seed.
Mind Lotus Seed Effects and When to Use It
Its effects are immediate and important:
- Completely removes Despair buildup
- Cures the Despair status effect if already active
It’s a life-saving resource, and you’ll be thankful every time you use it at the last second before the screen fades to black.
Despair builds up from:
- Pink crystal ores (Crimson Veins)
- Lantern Monks
- Summoned skeletons and corrupted beasts
There are specific map zones where Wuchang mostly has to deal with it like Snowy Passage, Avian Marsh, and Zhenwu Temple. In all these cases, the Mind Lotus Seed is the only way to completely remove this malady. Use it instantly when you see the red-purple Despair icon on your screen and the ring starts filling.
Where to Get Mind Lotus Seed
Loot in Zhenwu Forest
Mind Lotus Seeds start dropping frequently once you reach Zhenwu Forest, which is deep into the game’s third region. Look for glowing loot near cursed altars, caves, and corpse piles.
Purchase from Wu Gang
If you don’t want to rely on RNG or already burned through your supply, you can buy Mind Lotus Seeds directly from Wu Gang, the merchant NPC, for 160 Red Mercury each.
Found in Earlier Zones (Rarely)
You can find one or two Mind Lotus Seeds earlier in the game but they’re very rare, so don’t expect to find enough before Zhenwu Forest.
You can carry up to 5 Mind Lotus Seeds in your quick-use inventory at once. The rest (up to 999) are automatically stored in your global inventory. When you visit a Shrine and enter the Dream, your stash is refilled to five without you needing to do anything. Furthermore, you can read my Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Review to read all the goods and bads I found in my playthrough.
