The Yari’s Fury is a Sensei Tale in Ghost of Yotei and the third quest for the Yari weapon that wraps up Sensei Takahashi’s training part. This is a complete walkthrough that guides you through all objectives to complete The Yari’s Fury quest in Ghost of Yotei.
How to Start The Yari’s Fury
The Yari’s Fury becomes available once you have completed The Path of the Yari. Return to Sensei Takahashi’s Dojo in the White Deer Woodlands in the northeastern end of Ishikari Plain. You’ll find the Sensei waiting beside his familiar persimmon tree, training one of his students.
Talk to him to tell him about the conclusion of The Path of the Yari, and he’ll ask you to strike the persimmon tree with Yari to complete your training. Hit it, and… nothing happens. He then tells Atsu that it’s not easy to strike this tree, and if Atsu manages to drop a single fruit from the tree, her training will end.
There is an Altar of Reflection nearby you can reach following the path behind where master stands.
Follow Sensei Takahashi to His Dojo
Follow Sensei Takahashi to his dojo for training, where The Yari’s Fury begins. Inside the dojo, the master will show you three scrolls of his secret technique and ask you to read them. Every scroll has a special move that can be performed with the Yari spear, and Atsu needs to learn them.
Interact with each scroll to study the attacks. Once done, you’ll unlock the Yari Spirit Attack: Thundering Wave — a high-impact forward thrust that carries your enemy a few meters before slamming them down. Now use Thundering Wave to attack straw targets by pressing Triangle and Circle.
The move eats one Spirit but hits hard and interrupts almost any stance. Try it a few times until Takahashi gives a small approving grunt.
Thundering Wave is one of the best gap closers in the game. It cancels most Oni charge attacks and even interrupts shielded enemies if you hit early in their animation. It’s especially lethal in duels when used as a mid-combo Spirit dump.
Defeat the Oni Raiders
Just as training wraps up, Oni Raiders attack the dojo. Takahashi yells for you to defend the dojo, and this fight is a live test for your new technique.
The Oni Raiders wield flaming sickles that can quickly set you ablaze if you mistime blocks, Yari is best to counter sickles. Parry early, use your Thundering Wave to close gaps and stagger them, and roll if you catch fire. You’ll want to build up Spirit from standard Yari combos, then spend it on the new technique bursts to thin the crowd. Switch between the Katana and the spear as the fight demands. Takahashi and his students fight beside you, so it’s easier to take all the raiders down.
Once the fight ends, a cutscene plays out in which Takahashi has more tasks for Atsu to fight against the Oni, he mentions a bomb maker who can give a helping hand. The Yari’s Fury ends after the cutscene, and if you haven’t completed The Bomb Maker quest yet, you can go search for the woman. Otherwise, you can take on the next Sensei Tale: The Burning of Castle Ishikari.
