Ghost of Yotei The Path of the Yari Walkthrough

Another step to master the Yari with Sensei Takahashi in Ghost of Yotei.

The Path of the Yari is a Sensei Tale in Ghost of Yotei that automatically unlocks after you complete The Way of the Yari. It continues Atsu’s training under Sensei Takahashi, taking what you learned before and improving it through real battles across Ishikari Plain against the Oni forces. This time, your Yari skills are put to the test in two big liberation missions, and a new spear technique awaits those who learn its path.

How to Complete The Path of the Yari in Ghost of Yotei

Once you have earned Yari from the master, Sensei Takahashi tells you about his captured students and a blacksmith held hostage by Oni Raiders. He believes freeing them and rebuilding his dojo will forge both your Yari and spirit. He needs them to rebuild his dojo and tasks you with the things to do in Ishikari Plain.

Ghost of Yotei Higashi Lumberyard Map Location

To rescue the students, head to the Higashi Lumberyard, east of the Horokanai Bluffs and west of Urara Forest in the region.

Liberate Higashi Lumberyard

Ghost of Yotei Enter Higashi Lumberyard

Ride east from the bluffs to reach the lumberyard. Climb through the cliffs using rock handholds marked in the above image. The camp is filled with Oni Raiders and archers on watchtowers, so approach carefully.

I recommend starting from the northern cliffside, where you can silently pick off guards with Kunai or Smoke Bomb assassinations before the fight breaks out. Once things get loud, wield your Yari — its reach and crowd control work best here in open areas.

Ghost of Yotei Atsu interrogating Saito soldier

Kill all soldiers in Higashi Lumberyard until the last one left, and cutscene triggers with Atsu interrogate this Saito soldier to ask about the lumberyard’s leader. He’ll then tell Atsu about the location of Eijiro the Ruthless. He is one of the bounty enemies you hunt down in the game, so it’s also a job done of another bounty.

Atsu fight with Eijiro in Ghost of Yotei

Pass through the narrow opening from the big wooden gate, and the fight starts instantly with a cutscene. Three more Saito enemies fight alongside Eijiro, so deal with them first to make it easy. Use dual katana against sword-wielding Eijiro to take him down easily.

Once the leader is defeated, the area is now liberated, and Takahashi’s surviving students are rescued. Atsu will tell them to visit their master at his dojo. As a victory reward, you will receive Eijiro the Ruthless’s Mask.

Learn Typhoon Sweep

Ghost of Yotei Typhoon Sweep Yari Skill

After the lumberyard scene, you’ll be transported to a nearby Altar of Reflection. Bow before it to receive a skill point and then unlock a new Yari ability, the Typhoon Sweep. This skill is the upgrade of the Typhoon Kick and creates a wide sweeping arc to hit multiple enemies around. It’s a good skill to handle clustered groups and recover control when you’re surrounded.

Liberate Bold Kaji Forge

Ghost of Yotei Bold Kaji Forge Location

Bold Kaji Forge can be found northwest part of Horokanai Bluffs and southwest of Kakagoya Springs. Before you enter the forge, use spyglass from a higher cliff to scan the area and learn enemy positions. You can stealthily pick off a few guards near the outer walls before charging in.

Inside, the forge is under Oni control, and a captive blacksmith named Kotetsu is being forced to work for them. He’s near the center of the compound, sitting on the ground under heavy guard. Sneak close or fight your way in. Once you free him, all nearby enemies will be alerted.

Freeing Kotetsu alerts all the enemies, and they attack but Kotetsu fights beside you, so it’s easier than killing alone. When the last Oni Raider falls, Bold Kaji Forge will be liberated. Kotetsu will thank you for freeing his home from enemies and promise to craft new spears for Sensei Takahashi’s dojo. He also gives you the Charm of Canon Steps as a reward.

Ghost of Yotei Alter of Reflection Near Bold Kaji Forge

After that, you’ll once again be transferred to an Altar of Reflection. You have the chance to earn Typhoon Sweep either by clearing the lumberyard or forge. If you previously didn’t unlock the skill, you can do it now. Otherwise, invest in any spear upgrades that suit your combat style.

The Path of the Yari completes here. Return to Sensei Takahashi’s dojo in White Deer Woodlands to report your success. He acknowledges your discipline and sees your grown connection with the Yari, yet there’s still more to learn. Next, you can complete The Yari’s Fury, the last tale for Yari in Ghost of Yotei.
