The Fallow mission in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate seems simple, but a confusing, shielded boss at the end turns it into the expansion’s more puzzling encounters. Found shortly after completing The Central Academy Stragelet quest, Fallow drops you into a Vex-infested sector of Kepler and introduces the new Matterspark ability, which allows Ghost to transform into a small energy orb form to bypass locked paths, move through pipes, and hidden vents.
While most of the mission is not hard, the final fight with Devastator Mind can stall your progress if you don’t understand how to disable its immunity phase. So this Destiny 2 Fallow walkthrough tells everything to complete this mission, including how to get past Vex puzzles and defeat the boss easily.
How to Complete the Fallow in Destiny 2
To start Fallow which tasks you to eliminate Vex forces from Aionian Center who are attacking Kepler’s food supply, you’ll first need to help The Emeritus rescue a group of Aionian researchers in The Central Academy Strangelet quest. Once the work is done, the Fallow mission becomes available in the northern part of Kepler.
Your journey kicks off on a spacetime-altering subway ride. Once the cinematic ends, exit into a room with a locked door and a hostile Vex just beyond. But you can’t enter through the normal route; activate Matterspark in the same room to turn into a small ball and exit through the vent in the next chamber, and keep moving as Matterspark until its 45-second timer runs out by engaging the Vex forces along the way. Clear them out, and press on toward the Agricultural Center.
Reach the Agricultural Center
Upon entering the Center, the first mechanic-heavy puzzle appears. It’s here that you’ll encounter the Uplifted Choral Minotaurs, powerful Vex guardians that block your path.
Defeating one of these Minotaurs spawns a floating Vex cube marked by a laser that highlights a spot on the floor. Shoot the cube, follow the laser’s hint to locate a Matterspark vent, and use the transformation again to progress further.
This becomes a repeating mechanic:
- Kill a Minotaur
- Shoot the cube
- Use Matterspark
- Crawl through vents
- Destroy internal generators or consoles
If you’re ever stuck, follow the laser lines from cubes as they lead to vents or devices crucial for advancing.
The next phase is a wide, shallow-water arena where your goal is to protect the Aionian food caches from Vex interference. Three caches are spread across the map, each guarded by Vex cubes and flying Vex Imp Swarms. These swarms, usually drone clusters, must be dismantled by attacking their central core drone. The food caches themselves are shielded until you shoot the cube above them. After dealing with Vex cubes, interact with food caches to send them away.
This part doesn’t throw anything wildly difficult at you, but movement matters—stay near cover, avoid water hazards, and don’t get overwhelmed by the enemy clusters. Once all three caches are safely transmatted, a Rally Banner will appear with a signal of the upcoming boss fight.

How to Defeat the Devastator Mind Boss
The Devastator Mind is where the real meat of Fallow lies, and it’s the part most players struggle with. You’ll face this Vex Harpy boss in a circular arena flanked by water, Vex squads, and Harpy reinforcements. Start the fight by pelting the Devastator Mind with long-range weapons such as Linear Fusion Rifles or Snipers. Once you knock off a third of its health, it will shield itself and become immune.
At this point, a new Uplifted Choral Minotaur will spawn on one side of the arena. Eliminate it and destroy the Vex cube floating above it. Follow the cube’s laser line—it points to a vent entrance that was previously sealed. Interact with the Matterspark in the middle of the arena, and head back to the area revealed by the laser.
Now as a ball of energy, crawl into the newly opened floor vent, and you’ll arrive at a hidden room with a shield generator. Destroy it to bring down the Devastator Mind’s barrier.
Repeat the same loop two more times, each time you drop the boss’s health by a third, it shields up again. Follow these steps:
- Kill the Minotaur
- Destroy the Vex cube
- Activate Matterspark
- Crawl through the newly exposed tunnel
- Destroy the hidden generator
Each phase will unlock more of the arena and reduce the boss’s defenses. Once the final shield generator is destroyed, finish the fight. Don’t let up until the Devastator Mind crumbles.
Rewards for Completing Fallow
With the boss down, head to the far end of the arena and interact with the offline data terminal. This completes the main objective and unlocks the Rosetta II upgrade, which improves Ghost’s ability to read Aionian glyphs and open new interactions across Kepler. As a final treat, a reward chest will appear nearby with some good useful loot inside.
