Owl Mountain is found in the far north of the Teshio Ridge region in Ghost of Yotei. It’s the coldest part in the game where you start The Way of the Kusarigama Sensei Tale. Getting there can be hard because of freezing weather and tough enemy encounters on the way. This guide shows the fastest and safest path to reach Owl Mountain in Ghost of Yotei without dying from the cold.

How to Get to Owl Mountain in Ghost of Yotei
Once you reach Teshio Ridge through the main tale The Kitsune, your map marks Red Crane Inn as a major landmark. Fast travel or ride there first, this will be your main base and checkpoint before heading north. You don’t need to trigger any main mission here. Just visit once so you can use it as a fast travel point.
Start heading northwest from the Red Crane Inn. Keep riding past the wooden house on the left, and avoid lingering in open snow where the freezing effect starts. Keep following the frozen Teshio River on your left. The river will curve north; stay on the path.
Pass Sarobetsu Forest and the Kitsune Altar
As you ride along the frozen river, you’ll reach a fork leading into Sarobetsu Forest. This is where you’ll find a Kitsune Altar puzzle if you want to stop briefly, but you can skip it for now.
One way is to continue to the right snowy path moving upward passes near Ran’s Workshop. It takes you directly to the mountain bridge along the right side of the river.
Cross Sarobetsu Lake
Given the harsh conditions of the cold weather, follow the road further north until you reach Sarobetsu Lake to stop at Nakijima Sake House to warm yourself. This area is dangerous because of both the cold and the enemies guarding the lakeside.
You’ll likely encounter Snowstorm Katagiri, a bounty target surrounded by corpses. You can choose to fight him now or ignore him — defeating him earns 1500 Coins later when you turn in the bounty to Kojiro.
Reach the Bridge to Owl Mountain
From the house, ride north staying close to the frozen lake edge. The landscape changes slightly here, and you’ll start seeing orange-leaf trees against the snow. Follow the narrow dirt path through these trees until the road splits to the right and left. Take the left path and follow it by crossing the small wooden bridge leading into the mountain cliffs.
Once you cross to the other end of the bridge, you will reach Owl Mountain just west of the Sarufutsu River. From here, the Sensei Tale “The Way of the Kusarigama” begins, and you can move ahead to complete the quest to get the Kusarigama weapon.
