Add SourceIt has been a year since Baldur’s Gate 3 took over everyone’s free time and redefined what a CRPG could be. Larian Studios is likely to move on to new horizons; they don’t want to leave without making sure the villains of Faerûn get their due. Despite being clear that no major story DLC will release for the game, the studio isn’t done tinkering with its award-winning RPG. This September, Baldur’s Gate 3 is about to get new endings, aimed at players who didn’t walk the heroic path designed specifically for evil playthroughs.
Larian Studios shared some previews on Twitter, and these endings look properly unhinged. One clip shows the Dark Urge protagonist condemning their companions to truly grim fates. The Dark Urge playthrough already lets you commit absolutely horrific acts throughout the game, so it makes sense these characters would get appropriately nightmarish conclusions to their stories.
For a game that already allowed players to commit awful acts, the original endings often felt a little restrained if you played as a deadly villain. You could be ruthless all game long, only for the finale to pull its punches. These new finales seem to correct that and let evil runs actually end in evil.
Father would be so proud.

Normal player-created characters (Tav) aren’t left out either. Sure, they don’t have the Dark Urge’s murder obsession or mysterious connection to the game’s big bads, but that almost makes their evil choices better. They’re just being terrible people because they can, which has its own twisted appeal. We all love the heartwarming playthroughs where you help Astarion break free from Cazador’s control and build a close relationship with Shadowheart. Sometimes, you just want to see the Vampire Lord act like a lord of darkness or watch everything collapse in chaos.
If you decided happily ever after wasn’t for you, there’s an assortment of evil ending cinematics new to Baldur’s Gate 3, arriving with Patch 7.

The Origin characters can now lean into their dark impulses with new flavors of misery. In her most metal ending, Karlach gives up on her kindhearted nature, rips her own heart out, and summons a horde of devils to tear Baldur’s Gate city apart. Gale finally stops being the misunderstood wizard and openly challenges the heavens. He opens portals to march against the gods themselves. Rather than free her people, Lae’zel can now use Illithid power to become a new, terrifying Lich Queen.
While the endings are the headliners, Patch 7 is also the handover moment for the community. Larian has introduced official mod support with an in-game manager. A few tweaks are also made to things like Honour Mode, which adds new Legendary Actions to bosses. It’s exciting to see how the studio listens to players and improves the game. At first, recruiting Minthara meant you had to massacre the tieflings at the Emerald Grove, but a few good workfounds can now save you from that bloodshed—though, if you’re here for the dark endings, you’ll probably kill them anyway.
The developers frequently release quality-of-life improvements and content that make subsequent playthroughs stay fresh. It’s bittersweet to see Larian finishing their work on BG3 to focus on their next two projects, but giving the bad guys a proper curtain call is the perfect way to celebrate the game’s first birthday.
