Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Nian Suiching Quest Guide

Should you expose Nian Suichang or remain silent in Wuchang Fallen Feathers?

Nian Suiching in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is one of the first NPCs you meet early on, and then onward, encountering him many times throughout Shu’s journey. He is a warrior full of bravado, charm, and enough insecurity to make his story interesting. His questline stretches across much of the game, weaving between early boss fights, tragic family moments, and a choice that affects how his fate plays out.

The choice you will face when completing Nian Suiching’s questline in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is “should you expose him for lying or remain silent.” Both decisions have different outcomes, rewards, and, obviously, some emotional payoffs, and that makes his side quest worth carrying to its end. This guide explains everything in the right order to finish Suiching’s quest in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and what rewards you get, including a powerful sword and armor.

Nian Suiching Questline in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Like many NPC storylines in Soulslike games, Nian Suiching’s path is scattered across different zones and Shrines. He pops up frequently, and talking to him each time keeps his story moving forward. These are all the locations where you encounter Suiching in the questline:

Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple

First encounter with Nian Suiching at Worship's Rise Lightzen Temple - Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Not long after you leave Lightzen Temple and cross the river from Narrow Stretch, you’ll meet Nian Suichang near a big tree. He’s quick to boast about his future as a warrior, and he asks for your help to find the medicine for his brother’s cure, so agree to his request to get the Bone Whistle and Well Met emote from him.

The whistle allows you to summon Suiching and other NPC allies into tough boss fights where you can’t manage to survive alone, thanks to a few really hard Wuchang: Fallen Feather bosses, including Commander Honglan and Demon of Obsession. Not the great power on the list, but Nian can fight when it matters, even if he talks a bigger game than he can always back up. From here, you’ll see him drift in and out of your path, always hovering between bravado and insecurity, and for an early ally, he is very reliable in the big boss scraps.

Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum

You’ll next see him near the shrine on Shu Sanctum’s first floor. Head up to the top (third) floor of Sanctum and defeat Feathered Priest – Lu Bingzhang. You can summon Suichang with the Bone Whistle for this fight. Once the boss is down, return to Suichang downstairs and give Mercurial Blood to him that you looted from the boss. He will be thankful, stating it’s what his brother needed, and will offer you 3x Soft Rush (for stamina recovery). He’ll then tell about his return to Reverent Temple to save his brother.

Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple

Meeting Nian Suichang in Reverent Temple courtyard in front of closed gate - Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Inside the temple, he will be found near Xuanyangzi, and his sick brother, grateful that the medicine helped. Here, he rewards you with 3x Kong Wine (heal + increase Frostbite resistance for a short period). Later, after defeating Commander Honglan in the Tang Palace, talk to him again in the Reverent Temple courtyard right at the closed gate’s front leading to Cloudspire. He’s scratching his head about how to open it; you can do it for him using the Reverant Temple Key to unlock the gate and receive 5x Spicy Soup.

Cloudspire – Hillswatch

Hillswatch encounter with Nian Suichang in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Next, continue the story into Cloudspire, where you’ll pass through Hillswatch going upward. Along the main road, you will meet Suichang standing to the right of the path, who now says he has lost his belongings, the Tattered Pack, once he woke up after a sleep. Go up the slope left of Suichang, you’ll find the purple glowing item on the ground with a soldier standing close to it, go and pick up that item.

Take the belongings back to Suichang, and once you hand them over, you must choose between the given main choices. Here’s what happens in either case:

  • Expose Nian Suichang: Tell him you found the pack on a soldier’s body. This calls him out as a liar; he likely stole the gear and spun a story. If you pick this option, Suichang will remember it. The questline doesn’t end here, but much later in Worship’s Rise in Ruins, he will turn hostile and attack you, and that locks you into fighting him for his equipment.
  • Remain Silent: Say nothing about the soldier and return the pack as if nothing happened. Suichang stays friendly, continues to assist in battles with his bravery claims, and you’ll see a more tragic ending to his quest rather than a fight.

Regardless of your choice, he’ll teach you the Sorry emote here. This is one of the most important branch points in his story — it decides whether he’ll be an ally or an enemy. There is nothing extra to make him an enemy, so I recommend you select “Remain silent” and let things go calmly.

Cloudspire – Rebel Camp

General of the North Ai Nengqi Boss Fight in Nian Suichang Quest Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Once you reach the Rebel Camp gate, Suichang shows up again and offers his support for the next boss fight against General of the North – Ai Nengqi. If you want him in the fight, summon him with the Bone Whistle. After finish talking to him, open the large wooden door with the Rebel Camp Key to enter the boss zone.

This enemy is a powerful opponent with devastating elemental combos, including fire AoEs that cover wide ground, lightning strikes that punish anyone who rolls too early, and ice sweeps to stagger you off guard. After the enemy is killed, find Suichang collapsed outside the arena, battered but alive. Talk to him here to end this story part and earn 3x Kong Wine.

Mt. Zhenwu – Refugee Camp

Mt. Zhenwu Refugee Camp encounter with Nian Suiching in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

From Cloudspire, Suichang moves to Mt. Zhenwu, and this questline part involves three encounters with him across the area.

  1. Refugee Camp shrine (with Magalhaes): On first arrival at the Mt. Zhenwu Refugee Camp, rest at the nearby shrine. Suichang will be waiting around the area near the campfire. Speak to him and he gives 3x Emerald Lotus Seeds.
  2. After Bo Sorcerer fight: Progress through Mt. Zhenwu until you kill the Bo Sorcerer. Take the upper path going opposite the Refugee Camp that leads to the area with the Child in the Jar. On this route, Suichang will be off to the side and reward you with 3x Niter Fire Pots.
  3. After Liu Wenxiu (General of the South): Once you defeat Liu Wenxiu, head out past the boss arena. Follow the path, and instead of going right into the temple, move to the left, which has a shortcut door to the Refugee Camp. Talk to him again and get the 3x Soft Rush Flowers.

Mt. Zhenwu – Altar Gate: Fierce Tiger (Sovereign Zhang Xianzhong)

He can be summoned for Fierce Tiger & Sovereign – Zhang Xianzhong close to the Altar Gate Shrine using the Bone Whistle. If you also progressed Huang Jian’e’s quest, both allies will join, making it a three-on-one fight.

Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Altar

After the fight, head back outside near the cave entrance to the Storyteller’s place. Suichang will be here too – talking to him at this point is important because moving forward from here with the Storyteller takes you into the point of no return for his questline. Exhaust the dialogues with him to receive 3x Special Pill, and he now wants to go back to Worship’s Rise.

You must not accept Storyteller’s offer until you are absolutely sure that you have completed everything behind in the story.

Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Shu Sanctum

Meeting Nian Suichang for the last time in Shu Sanctum in Wuchang Fallen Feathers

Once you are ready and accept the Storyteller’s proposal, the world shifts into the ruined version of Worship’s Rise. From Shu Sanctum, take the upper path that leads out toward a cliffside. Suichang will be there but what happens next depends on the Cloudspire choice you made with the Tattered Pack.

  • If you expose him earlier, he turns into your enemy. This is your final confrontation with him, and defeating him drops the Zhanlu Sword, Champion Armor Set, and Sword of Judgment.
  • If you stayed silent, instead of turning hostile, you find Suichang broken down and weeping sitting on the cliff’s edge. He no longer has the will to fight and on the ground nearby, you can pick up the Sword of Exorcism.

Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Annalum Courtyard

If he wasn’t hostile, continue across the invisible bridge to Annalum Courtyard. The shrine here is a mimic; defeat it, rest, and check the nearby house to meet Suichang is inside in a silent and broken state. Afterward, return to the earlier cliffside. Even if you didn’t fight him, the Zhanlu Sword, Champion Armor Set, and Sword of Judgment will now appear there, letting you collect his equipment anyway without killing him.
