Every gate throws a riddle at you, and you have to select one option between the given choices. If you don’t answer it right, there won’t be a second chance so you must pick the correct choice to open the gate. These are interesting Wuchang parts because “wrong” answers for a couple of gates lead to unique rewards or secret areas you can’t access otherwise.
One such scenario comes at the Hillswatch Mystery Gate, where you’re asked whether to Follow the Course of Destiny or Challenge the Threads of Fate. What you decide at this Mysterious Gate leads to a different outcome, and it depends on what you are after. Let’s break it down.
Where to Find the Hillswatch Mystery Gate in Wuchang Fallen Feathers
After defeating Commander Honglan in the Tang Emperor Palace, you’ll receive the Reverent Temple Key which opens the path through the Reverent Temple Gate to Cloudspire. Once at Hillswatch Shrine, you will come across this gate to the right of the elevator, which is easy to miss on a rushed first run. A sobbing woman nearby hints at the sorrow and tragedy linked to this gate and gives you the quest.
The Hillswatch has this riddle:
“Delusion grips, conviction burns; Greed and folly take their turns. Breathless wails pierce through the night; Lifeless forms, devoid of light.”
You have these two options to pick from:

- Challenge the Threads of Fate – Correct Answer
What Happens If You Choose “Follow the Course of Destiny”
Selecting this option opens the gate, but instead of leading to something special, you will be teleported to the Mort Grotto Shrine. On paper, that might sound useful; after all, it’s a shortcut to an area you’ll visit anyway. But Mort Grotto is accessible through normal story progression, so this choice only gives you early access to the area at best. You will get 1x Red Mercury, which is not something valuable that is worth this choice.
What Happens If You Choose “Challenge the Threads of Fate”
Challenge the Threads of Fate is the correct answer, and picking it opens a hidden mine section, which is otherwise not reachable. Inside the cave, you’ll find Kong Wine (a consumable that restores health and increases frostbite resistance) and the full Bridal Set including Veil, Corset, Shackles, and Dress. The Bridal armor isn’t the strongest in physical defense, but it excels in corruption resistance and carries a big thematic weight and further reflects the tragic bride NPC you encountered earlier.
Unlike the Tang Palace and Bo Capital gates, where the “wrong” answers yield even more interesting results, the Hillswatch gate is cut-and-dry to pick the correct choice. For achievement, remember to unlock the Sage Trophy, you need to select the “correct” answer for all three Mystery Gates.
