Lagiacrus was added to Monster Hunter Wilds with Free Title Update 2, but you cannot simply reach the required Hunter Rank and start hunting it. You have to complete a specific main mission and Erik’s side quest before his Lagiacrus assignment becomes available. Here’s how to unlock the Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the steps required to trigger the extra quest.
How to Unlock Lagiacrus in MH Wilds
To unlock Extra Mission 2: Trembling Blue Currents, you need to meet three requirements:
- Reach Hunter Rank 31 or higher
- Complete the main story quest A World Turned Upside Down
- Complete Erik’s Forest Doshaguma side mission in the Scarlet Forest
Once all three conditions are met, return to the Scarlet Forest and speak with Erik. He will give you Trembling Blue Currents, the extra mission that introduces Lagiacrus.
Note: If the quest does not appear after meeting all conditions, fast travel to a different zone or rest at your tent to reset the area.
First, you must reach HR31, so keep grinding through the main story and complete the quests to increase your Hunter Rank. You also have to finish the main mission A World Turned Upside Down, which is a late game quest from Chapter 5.
Since this is part of the normal story, you might have already wrapped it up by the time you download the Title Update 2 content. Just make sure to finish it before you visit Erik to unlock the Extra Mission.
Complete the Forest Doshaguma Side Mission
After progressing through the relevant story content, talk to Erik after completing Wyvern Sparks and Rose Thorns. He’ll ask you to capture a Doshaguma in the Scarlet Forest. This objective does not provide a normal quest that you can select from Alma, so you have to find a Doshaguma during a field expedition and capture it.
To capture the Doshaguma, check the Scarlet Forest’s environment information to see the current monster forecast. Look for the monster on the forecast before heading out. If one isn’t scheduled to spawn soon, rest at camp and advance the area’s time and conditions until a Doshaguma is available. Once you find one, weaken it and perform a capture action to complete Erik’s request.
Return to him after capturing it, and the Forest Doshaguma side mission will be completed.
Get Trembling Blue Currents From Erik
You might not see the Lagiacrus quest right after finishing the Doshaguma request. The Scarlet Forest needs to refresh before Erik can offer the next quest. Leave the area and come back, or rest to move time forward. Once the game registers the unlock conditions, talk to him again. Erik will have fresh dialogue and give you Extra Mission 2: Trembling Blue Currents.
How to Capture Lagiacrus
The Trembling Blue Currents requires you to capture Lagiacrus rather than slay it, so make sure to have the Shock Traps or Pitfall Traps and Tranq Bombs ready before you go for the monster hunt.
Keep fighting Lagiacrus until it enters its weakened state. Watch for signs that it’s close to being captured, then stop your heavy attacks to avoid killing it. Lagiacrus can move between land and water during the fight, so wait until it returns to a suitable spot on land before setting your trap.
Place either a Shock Trap or Pitfall Trap in Lagiacrus’s path and lure the monster into it. Once Lagiacrus is caught, immediately use Tranq Bombs. Two bombs are enough to complete the capture when he has been greatly weakened.
Lagiacrus’s electrical attacks can inflict Thunderblight. Eat a Nulberry to remove this effect so his attacks stay manageable while you try to bring it into capture range. Fire works best against him, though Ice and Dragon are effective backups. For status effects, Poison, Sleep, and Blast can all be used to create additional openings during the fight.
How to Unlock Tempered Lagiacrus
Completing Trembling Blue Currents unlocks Lagiacrus for normal hunting, but Tempered Lagiacrus has an additional progression requirement. You must be at HR41 or higher, which requires clearing the What Lies Ahead HR40 assignment. Once you’re at Hunter Rank 41, the Tempered version will begin to spawn in the Scarlet Forest.
To search for Lagiacrus, go to the Iceshard Cliffs, rest at a tent, and set the time to Morning with Inclemency weather. After that, check the Scarlet Forest map to see if Lagiacrus spawned.
This method does not guarantee monster spawns every time, but it can be a convenient way to cycle the environment until Lagiacrus appears. It can also help when you’re after Lagiacrus and Tempered Lagiacrus investigations, including those that can provide valuable rewards like the Lagiacrus Sapphire.
