Tao Qing’s quest to recover his family’s stolen painting is one of the first side objectives you’ll get in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, but it’s easy to miss. The area it takes place in, Annalum, is behind a mid-boss, split paths, and a bridge that most players walk past. If you’ve already reached Shu Sanctum, you can complete this quest. You’ll just need to know where to branch off, what to fight, and where to look when you finally get there.
Where to Find Tao Qing’s Painting in Annalum in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
You first meet Tao Qing at the bottom of the Reverent Temple during the early game tutorial. He explains that a landscape painting, a family heirloom, was stolen by bandits and taken to Annalum. You won’t be able to go there right away, but after clearing Shu Sanctum, the path unlocks. He asks you to return the painting to him at Shu Sanctum once found, that’s where he relocates once the quest progresses.
Once you’re past Shu Sanctum, make your way through Worship’s Rise. From there, keep moving upward until you pass the Fire Dancer mini-boss, a fire-masked enemy that drops the Infernal Flames spell.
After defeating that enemy, look for a left-side sloping path that winds along the cliff. It’s easy to miss since it appears to be a side path rather than the main progression. Follow it downward and you’ll reach a long wooden bridge; cross that to enter Annalum.
Once you cross the bridge into Annalum, head uphill and take out a few demi-human enemies along the way. At the top of the slope is a Shrine which you need to interact with. You can set this as your fast travel and checkpoint if anything goes wrong ahead.
From the shrine, move into the courtyard filled with enemies. Ignore the left for now (though there are minor loot pieces there like a Shadow Stone Needle. Instead, take the right path out of the courtyard. which leads to a second wooden bridge.
Cross it and you’ll face an empowered demi-human enemy who holds a massive wooden plank that it can split into dual clubs. Dodge its sweeps and slams, and hit back hard after its slow recovery animations. Once you kill this enemy, you’ll receive the Scenic Painting, along with a Red Mercury Essence and a Faint Red Feather.
With the painting in hand, fast-travel back to Shu Sanctum and speak with Tao Qing again. You’ll get the option to “Hand over the Scenic Painting.” Doing this will:
- Complete the Tao Qing side quest
- Reward you with a Red Mercury Shoot
- Unlock 5 Fragment of the Divine Gift items in his shop (500 Red Mercury each)
This is one of many items that help expand Tao Qing’s store, so returning these quest items builds out your long-term access to rare spells, boss sets, and more. The Scenic Painting is one of 17 total items part which are required to fully upgrade Tao Qing’s shop; it’s required if you’re going after the “Well Traveled” trophy or want to unlock complete Divine Gift access.
