Rockstar has confirmed it — Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) second trailer was fully captured on a PlayStation 5. Not a PS5 Pro or a high-end PC. The whole gameplay was on a regular PS5, the same one many of us have been using since 2020.
Rockstar confirmed this in a post on X (formerly Twitter). The studio said the trailer was “captured entirely in-game from a PlayStation 5,” and that it features “equal parts gameplay and cutscenes.” So yes, all the jaw-dropping footage from the sun-soaked beaches to the gritty neon streets is running in real-time on PS5.

Naturally, fans were skeptical. The trailer looked ridiculously good – too good some said for base PS5 hardware. Many gamers thought Rockstar was being sneaky, maybe showing footage from a developer kit or some upgraded console we haven’t seen yet. But what we saw is what players will actually get.
Rockstar Games didn’t only polish up some cutscenes to get people talking. The visuals, the lighting, the dense crowds, the reflections on wet roads — it’s all in-game. It’s not smoke and mirrors.
There’s actual gameplay in there, too; you have to look closely. One of the most talked-about moments is when Jason Duval, one of the game’s protagonists, walks into what appears to be his apartment. It looks cinematic, but there’s a subtle flow that hints at a cutscene transitioning into gameplay. Rockstar’s known for blending the two, and if this is what’s on PS5, it’s greatly impressive.
There’s a lot more going on in the trailer too. Fans have spotted the possible return of Phil Cassidy, you know him completely if you had previously made weapon deals with him, though his look has changed. Further, there are a lot of activities like basketball, golf, kayaking, fishing, hunting, working out, and even what looks like underground fight clubs that have been witnessed in the latest trailer.
None of it’s officially confirmed as playable, but Rockstar says the complete trailer was gameplay from the original GTA 6. It should mean that these aren’t just background animations but could be part of the actual gameplay loop. And there is also the gym scene where Jason is lifting weights on the beach, which takes us back to GTA San Andreas when the gym was included in the Grand Theft Auto series for the first time. That alone has people wondering if character customization and fitness stats are making a comeback. If so, it’d be the first time in years.
GTA 6 is set to release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PC version yet, and no word on enhanced console versions either. But what Rockstar has shown so far, on current-gen hardware, already pushing boundaries.
