Where to Find the Old Wayshrine Key in Resident Evil 4 Remake

A key to get hands on many hidden valuable treasures.

Wayshrines are one of the many treasures you’ll find across the nooks and crannies of Resident Evil 4 Remake. These are ornate wooden shrines that contain Pearl Bangles and Antique Pipes to increase the Peseta stash at the Merchant’s shop. But these shrines are locked until you find the Old Wayshrine Key that unlocks all five Wayshrines in the game. This guide will tell you where to find the Old Wayshrine Key in Resident Evil 4 Remake, and all Wayshrine locations to use the key.

How to Find the Old Wayshrine Key in Resident Evil Remake

Resident Evil 4 Remake Old Wayshrine Key Location

Wayshrines are locked treasure boxes found around the Village, and you encounter them staring in Chapter 1 of Resident Evil 4 Remake, but they can’t be opened as they require the Old Wayshrine Key. Each shrine contains a high-value item like a Splendid Bangle or Elegant Headdress, which can be sold or combined with gemstones for extra Pesetas. You don’t need five keys to unlock all five shrines, but only a single key opens them all. You can only get the Old Wayshrine Key until you’re in Chapter 4 and must use it to access all the treasure before leaving the Village in Chapter 6.

After defeating Del Lago in Chapter 4, you’ll arrive at the Boat House. Follow the only path forward, clear out tough Ganados, some of which may spawn Plaga parasites. Go into the Mural Cave, progress through until you reach the mural with two stone hands. Go past the mural and exit into the small outdoor area with a dock and a boat. Don’t go aboard the boat but look to the right to see a small wooden structure draped in red or pink cloth. Inside is a chest containing the Old Wayshrine Key. Open it to collect the key and visit each Wayshrine to unlock it with the key and loot the rewards.

Resident Evil Remake Wayshrines Locations

  • The first Wayshrine is in the Farm, on the north side of the large barn at the Wooden Cog location you come across in Chapter 1. It contains an Antique Pipe worth 7,000 Pesetas. Make sure to unlock this one before going to the Villa bridge, as crossing it triggers a cutscene and you can’t come back to the Farm again.
  • The second Wayshrine is in the Lakeside Settlement, just past the building where you free Luis. Use the boat after getting the key to get there. The area has Ganados, so come prepared. This shrine contains a Pearl Bangle, which sells for 12,000 Pesetas.
  • The third one is found on the path from the Quarry towards the Merchant’s shop. Head west through the Merchant’s compound down a narrow path where you’ll encounter the Wayshrine holding the Butterfly Lamp, valued at 6,000 Pesetas and compatible with gemstones to increase its worth.
  • The fourth Wayshrine is located at the end of a river tunnel west of the Large Cave Shrine dock. After exiting the Mural Cave where you get the Wayshrine Key, use the boat and follow the river west until you find a torch-marked dock. The Wayshrine here contains a Splendid Bangle worth 4,000+ Pesetas. Shoot down the silver lantern hanging nearby to collect an Alexandrite gemstone.
  • The final Wayshrine is found in Chapter 6 on the upper level of the Checkpoint area, where you fight the two Chainsaw Sisters. Access it from the raised path near the crank handle room. Unlock it before triggering the crank to avoid extra enemies. Inside is an Elegant Headdress worth 6,000 Pesetas. It’s best to unlock this shrine before grabbing the crank, as doing so spawns more enemies.

Once you’ve opened all the Wayshrines and collected the treasures, you can sell the Old Wayshrine Key to the Merchant, as it won’t be needed beyond the Village.
