The encounter that unlocks it, Scammer Victims, mostly don’t trigger right away and can break if you’re already tied up in other encounters or have interacted with Zhang Yihao in the wrong order. This guide explains how to start Scammer Victims quest to get the Art of Resistance Inner Way, the usual fail states, and how to force spawn the encounter if it won’t trigger.
How to Get the Art of Resistance in Where Winds Meet
To obtain Art of Resistance, you need to complete the Scammer Victims Encounter quest in Harvestfall Village in the Qinghe region. But to unlock this encounter, you must first complete the Initiation: Well of Heaven Elder Exploration quest.
Talk to waiter San Qian to begin the initiation quest. Find the Well of Heaven Elder southwest of the Harvestfall Village to speak with him, then find Zhang Yihao on the cliff east of the village to retrieve the jewelry bag from him (use Celestial Seize to steal it) and return it to the Elder to complete the Well of Heaven Elder quest.
After that, go to Zhang Yihao to talk to him to trigger the Scammer Victims quest.
How to Trigger the Scammer Victims Encounter
The encounter only triggers once Zhang Yihao despawns and respawns into the correct state. If you face the issue, here’s how to force it to show up properly:
- Keep Active Encounters Low: You can have a maximum of three active encounters at once. If your cap is already full, Scammer Victims will never appear, so clear or abandon down to two active encounters.
- Do Another Unrelated Quest: Trigger encounter on the road, complete one objective, and leave it. You don’t need to finish the entire quest; one progress tick is enough to refresh the state.
- Advance Time Some Days: Move 3-5 days in-game time to force NPC state resets.
- Walk the Path Up and Down to Zhang Yihao: Start from the road near the Mysterious Outpost below the cliffs. Move up toward Zhang’s location, and if nothing happens, head back down. Return up the path again. The encounter should start before you approach Yihao. If it still doesn’t appear, log out to the menu, then log back in and repeat the cycle.
Players who thought they bricked the quest usually get it to spawn during one of these resets, especially after a world boss or another encounter. Once the Scammer Victims Encounter quest successfully starts, follow Zhang’s new dialogue and complete the final fight during the scammer storyline. When the quest ends, you will receive the Art of Resistance Tome automatically.
