Oshima Coast is a late-game region in Ghost of Yotei that unlocks as part of the main story. It becomes accessible during The Saito Brothers quest once you have completed earlier regions such as Ishikari Ridge and Teshio Plains. This area contains advanced enemies, key story missions, and many high-level activities, including new mythic quests and collectibles. The guide tells when and how to get to Oshima Coast in Ghost of Yotei and what you encounter there.
How to Get to Oshima Coast in Ghost of Yotei
The Saito Brothers is the 9th main story quest that becomes available only after you complete The Kitsune and The Oni main tales and Chapter Two begins. Here’s a complete walkthrough to reach Oshima Coast after progressing through all the events in the quest.
Start The Saito Brothers Quest
During The Yotei Six main quest, ride through Yotei Grasslands and clear random enemy groups including horseback patrols, bounty hunters, or bandits interrogating civilians.
Once only one enemy remains, Atsu automatically interrogates them. When given dialogue options, choose “The Saito Brothers.” A yellow marker appears in the north of the Tokachi Range region, starting the quest.
Find Master Yoshida’s Dojo Near the Horosaru Falls
Fast travel to Central Ferry and ride southwest to reach Horosaru Falls. Master Yoshida stands on the bridge near his dojo, speak with him to begin the training segment.
Train with the Odachi
Follow Yoshida to the weapon rack and pick up the odachi. He teaches you new moves including light attacks, heavy attacks, and defensive blocks. After training, follow him again to continue the lesson, switching between the katana and odachi as instructed.
When enemies from Saito’s forces attack across the bridge, take them out using both weapon types.
Follow Yoshida to Cliff’s Top
After the bridge fight, Yoshida leads you toward the western cliff. Climb using rock ledges and tree limbs. Cross the bamboo bridge, continue upward, and clear another Saito enemy camp at the top.
Boost Yoshida up the tall wall, then climb after him. A bo-hiya gunner attacks from above — flank left, close the gap, and eliminate him.
Tear down the bamboo barrier to proceed. Keep climbing until a cutscene triggers where Yoshida teaches a new Odachi Block Counter move (hold and release △). Use it during the next two enemy waves, especially against Brutes with axes who can disarm you.
Follow Yoshida to His Dojo
Continue up the next cliff using handholds and jumps. Another group of Saito enemies ambushes you at the top; defeat them to trigger a cutscene. After this fight, Atsu permanently unlocks the Odachi weapon.
Follow Yoshida back to his dojo for another cutscene. When it ends, you receive the Inokichi the Hungry bounty and new objectives.
Return Home – Sub-Chapter: Ghosts of the Past
Fast travel back to Atsu’s Home in Yotei Grasslands. Enter the fenced area to trigger a cutscene starting the sub-chapter Ghosts of the Past.
Follow Jubei through a short sequence:
- Visit the forge.
- Inspect the Ginkgo Tree Branch.
- Play a round of zeni hajiki at the table inside the house.
This scene moves the story into Chapter 2 – The Onryo, followed by the next major objective.
Meet Jubei and Oyuki at the Oshima Coast Gatehouse
After the cutscene, a new objective appears, “Meet Jubei and Oyuki at the Oshima Coast Gatehouse.” Head directly west from your home to the large gatehouse structure that marks the entrance to the Oshima region.
Once there, Oyuki will be waiting for Atsu at the gate’s front. Open the gate with the help of Oyuki and exhaust the cutscene with wounded Matsumae on the ground, grunting in pain. Next here begins the sub-chapter The Storm Breaks.
Sub: Chapter The Storm Breaks – Entering Oshima Coast
After the cutscene, ride through a burned village where you’ll find Jubei. Follow him across the battlefield, regrouping with allies by the river. As you charge the enemy front line, use Horse Charge (L1 + R1) to break through. Eliminate remaining soldiers and proceed through the path near the destroyed bridge.
You’ll face a few gunners ahead, wait for them to reload, then rush in to eliminate them safely. Continue through the narrow cliff path, inspect the marked points, and advance to the gatehouse area.
Enter the Gatehouse
Inside the fort, use stealth along the cliff on the right to approach from above and eliminate enemies below and proceed through the broken wall. Climb the short ledge, clear remaining guards, and unlock the Tanegashima Rifle, your first Ranged Weapon. You also unlock the Take Aim trophy with that. Survey the area and shoot the gunpowder barrels to trigger an explosion.
Escape the Fort to Oshima Coast
Join Jubei in the final skirmish, then follow him up the hill toward the open coastline through the gate. On the other side of this gate, you finally enter the Oshima Coast as Kiku also mentions in dialogue.
What Awaits in the Oshima Coast?
Once the region is unlocked, the southern coastline appears on your map and fast travel becomes available. Your first objective is to establish a base by clearing Iwasaki Farmstead or Oiso Fishing Village. Both locations will be safe zones where you can rest, upgrade weapons, and access the bounty board.
From here, the region completely opens to Atsu to freely explore. You’ll find:
- Shrines and Altars that grant charms and skill upgrades.
- Camps and Bounties involving high-level enemies.
- Final reliquary puzzle of Yotei, Reliquary of Faith to earn unique rewards.
- Collectibles and Hot Springs along the coastal cliffs.
Oshima Coast contains many final story missions, has the toughest game enemies, and is the endgame hub to complete 100% map objectives in Ghost of Yotei.
