In Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, side quests often do more than fill time; they strengthen your connection with characters and reveal subtle nuances in Kojima’s layered world. One such quest is Sub Order 103: [Breakable Cargo] Recover the Stolen Record Collection, which you get from the Musician in Episode 3. It’s an easy one to mess up if you don’t play your cards right, considering the fragility of the cargo involved. In this guide, we’ll tell everything you need to know to complete this order by finding the stolen record collection in Death Stranding 2.
Sub Order 103: How to Find the Stolen Record Collection in Death Stranding 2
Before you get the opportunity to recover the stolen record collection, the Musician needs a reason to trust you. This Sub Order only unlocks after completing “Main Order 011: Destroy the Communications Disruptor and Deliver the Mysterious Recording to the Musician,” which you’ll take on earlier in Episode 3 while exploring Australia. Once done and the Musician is connected to the Chiral Network, the Sub Order 103 appears in his terminal. Check under the “Take on Orders” menu to initiate the job.
On paper, this mission sounds easy—retrieve cargo near the Musician’s shelter. But don’t underestimate the descent. The collection is lodged at the base of steep cliff directly behind his facility, and you might damage the cargo.
Bring the following gear with you:
- Climbing Anchors – at least two or three
- Ladders – optional, but extremely helpful for tight ledges
- Extra backpack space – the Record Collection is an L-sized cargo item
The stolen record collection is fragile and takes fall damage, impacts, or rough handling. To earn the maximum Likes (which you should), you’ll want to keep it pristine. Once you accept the Sub Order, a mission marker will appear just behind the Musician’s shelter, which is the general area on the cliffside. Your objective is located somewhere downhill, but not directly visible from the top.

To get there, head east past the terminal behind the Musician’s base. Set up a Climbing Anchor at the edge of the drop-off, then descend with care. If you see ropes already placed by other porters, don’t be shy to use them. Use the Odradek Scanner (L1 + R1) frequently to locate cargo in the area as you descend. At the mid-point of the descent, look to your right to find a pair of yellow containers tucked up on a ledge, that’s where the Record Collection is.
Reaching the container is slightly tricky. You can either set up a Ladder against the rocky surface and climb up, or slowly edge around the slope without tools. Once close, interact with the cargo to add it to your back and ensure you have enough space to carry its big weight. To reach the top again, use the same ropes or Climbing Anchors you placed earlier. Hold L2 + R2 while walking to maintain balance, mainly on inclines, and avoid sudden jerks, long drops, or rushing your steps. Once you’re back on the ground near the terminal, return to the Musician and complete the delivery.
Rewards
Cargo delivery other than netting you Likes greatly increases your Connection Level with the Musician, and pushes you to Level 3 in one go if it arrives undamaged.
These are the rewards you earn for completing Sub Order 103:
- “Miira No Sakebi” Music Track – unlocks in your music player
- LW Shotgun [MP] Lv. 1 – a practical mid-game weapon
- ~295 Likes – varies depending on cargo condition
Plus, this mission acts as a soft tutorial on handling breakable cargo, preparing you for tough delivery challenges later in the game.
