Insomniac Confirms Wolverine Joins the Spider-Man Universe

From skyscrapers to snikts, get ready for a gaming universe crossover.

If you’ve been clinging to buildings and spinning webs in the virtual world of New York City, then we have good news for you. Remember when Insomniac gave us that announcement trailer for a Wolverine game back in 2021? It’s been a while, and info about the game has been as elusive as a stealthy spider in the night. But now, we’ve got the scoop!

First, let’s talk about the web-slinger. Insomniac’s “Spider-Man 2” landed in our universe on October 20, and what a landing it was. The game’s already swaying the hearts of critics and fans alike. But in true Marvel spirit, it came with its stash of Easter eggs. A few of those pointed, rather subtly, at the upcoming Wolverine game, making all of us wonder if Logan might just drop by in Peter Parker’s NYC.

Well, the whispers are true! Insomniac just confirmed that Wolverine isn’t just slashing his way into the gaming world; they are doing it in the same universe as our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

A Glimpse into the Insomniac Marvel Multiverse

During a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Games podcast, Insomniac’s creative director, Bryan Intihar, got to talk about everything Spider-tastic. The million-dollar (or maybe just a cool Spidey suit) question asked by the host: Is Wolverine swinging (or, well, running with those claws out) in Spider-Man’s universe?

Intihar’s response was, “They’re all 1048, I think I got that right, but yeah.” For those not fluent in Marvel-ese, Earth-1048 is where Insomniac’s Spider-Man hangs out. This ain’t your typical Earth-616, which is home to most of Marvel’s comic, movie, and TV stories.

With this revelation, our imaginations are running wild. Does this mean Wolverine might help Spidey in a future boss battle? Or maybe, just maybe, Peter could have a heart-to-heart with Logan over some late-night New York party?

Although Spider-Man 2 teased us with some Wolverine hints, it’s still anyone’s guess how the two iconic titles will cross paths. Pressed for more juicy details in an IGN interview, Intihar gave us the classic Marvel teaser, saying, “Let’s let the Wolverine team cook and if something ever happens in the future, great.”

Well, we don’t know much, but we do know this: “Wolverine” will make its appearance on PlayStation 5, and we’re expecting it to drop sometime between 2024-2025. Until then, we’ll be right here, eagerly awaiting more Easter eggs, trailers, and teasers.
