You will find this frog near the Sunlit Wetlands during Act 1, your encounter with this frog could range from being wildly beneficial to downright bizarre, depending on your choice. The game gives you a ton of freedom in how you handle these encounters, and talking to this frog is no exception. Before you decide to have a meetup with this frog, there are a few quirks and details you should know about.

Who is the Addled Frog in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)?

Interacting with the Addled Frog in Baldur's Gate 3

There’s an area under a strong spell cast by Auntie Ethel, and it’s not just the people getting the brunt of it – the animals are affected too and this also includes the Addled Frog. This creature is just a typical frog that’s been caught up in this whole mess. Because of Auntie Ethel’s spell, it’s in a lot of pain; it’s really at the edge, trying desperately to find some relief.

When you find and talk to a frog, the game throws a few options at you, and you will even need to pass an animal handling check. Moreover, if you have the Speak With Animals spell, you can have a deeper conversation with him. But, to be honest, it’s mostly the frog telling you about the pain it suffers, not much else. You can only communicate with this animal if you have defeated Auntie Ethel before meeting it. The entire interaction can change based on your previous choices in the game. It’s one of those situations in BG£ that makes this game world feel so alive and interconnected.

What to Do with the Addled Frog in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Talking with Addled Frog after defeating Auntie Ethel and lifting the curse.

As already told above, Auntie Ethel has cast a spell that’s affecting this little frog. It’s in dire need of someone to remove this curse. If you just stumble upon him and try to chat or do anything other than pass an animal handling check and then leave it alone, things get dicey. The frog, because of its bad state, will attack you, and unfortunately, it’ll end up being dead. So, there’s a bit of strategy involved here.

You might think about simply walking away and don’t interact with Addled Frog when you locate it. That’s one way to make sure it does not get killed. But if you’re looking for a bit more adventure and a reward, you might want to consider helping it get treated. To remove the spell from this frog, your task is to beat Auntie Ethel in BG3; it’s not an easy feat, but it’s worth it.

Once you’ve dealt with the boss and the curse is lifted, go back and have a chat with this froggy friend. This time, it’ll lead you to something cool – a hidden backpack stuffed with Gold, a Scroll of Detect Thoughts, and a Scroll of Shocking Grasp. It’s the frog’s way of saying thanks for saving him from the curse.

Helping this little frog isn’t only a side quest to complete – it’s a good way to explore the depth of Baldur’s Gate 3’s world and how your actions can make a difference. Moreover, who doesn’t love a treasure hunt?
