Ghost of Yotei splits Japan’s Ezo map into 6 major regions (7th small Mount Yotei), and one of them is Teshio Ridge. Each region unlocks by progressing the main tales story or specific traversal sequences. Read this guide to learn how to reach Teshio Ridge in Ghost of Yotei.
How to Get to Teshio Ridge in Ghost of Yotei
Once you reach Nayoro Wilds and complete The Heart of an Ainu tale with Huci during the Spirits of Teshio Ridge mission. You next have to go to Teshio Ridge from Nayoro Wilds to continue your story in the main tale The Kitsune, one of the Yotei Six.
Open your map and mark the Golden Ginkgo Leaf revenge icon in the far north. Follow the Nupur River north from Husko Kotan village road. Once out of the village, cross the river to move along the right bank.
Follow the white flowers and wind direction, and ahead, you’ll face three Bounty Hunter Ronins at Nupur Rest Spot. As there is a Bounty on Atsu’s head, these bandits set traps in different areas throughout Atsu’s journey. You have to kill them, and it also unlocks The Honor trophy. Don’t forget to collect the Bounty before leaving.
Ride along the right riverbank until the dense forest and snow begin to fall, and that’s when you encounter a group of merchants arguing about their spooked horses. Approach them to trigger a short cutscene. They have heard of “spirits” and settlers gone missing in Teshio Ridge, so afraid to continue their journey. One will ask for Atsu’s help to travel with them, and they are ready to pay a good amount. Though an aged merchant will make a joke about her being a woman, then two choices appear on screen to select one:
- No thanks.
- Rudeness costs extra.
You can either refuse or accept with sarcasm; it doesn’t affect the mission, but the hiring price will be doubled with the second choice. It’s the official start of Spirit of Teshio Ridge.
Ride with the merchants as a snowstorm begins to cover the trail. Blue lanterns appear in the trees — these are Kitsunebi and a hint of the Kitsune somewhere near.
The tension breaks fast when one merchant is hit by a flaming arrow. You’re knocked from your horse as Oni-like ambushers arrive using kusarigama chains and flash bombs. Counter the chain weapon with your Yari stance or perfect parries — it’s all about timing. Roll away from white sparks when bombs are thrown to avoid getting blinded.
Once the ambush ends, a cutscene shows the arrival of someone whom Atsu desperately wants to kill. The Kitsune reveals himself in black-cloaked first, then the white-clad version, but spares Atsu, calling her “Onryo.”
Atsu wakes later, injured but alive. Loot the fallen enemy to collect a torn note, then move forward to enter a cave. Make the camp inside by starting a fire to warm up from the heavy snow and rest. When the storm clears, leave the cave with horse to enter the Teshio Ridge, a snowy, haunted mountain range.
