Taking down Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is no easy feat. She is a former Carian princess and sister of Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon. As a legendary boss, she brings a blend of elegance and devastation, wielding dual enchanted greatswords infused with magic and fire. This guide tells you how to beat Rellana, Twin Moon Knight in Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, and win the tough fight.
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Rellana, Twin Moon Knight Boss Fight
Rellana is present at Castle Ensis, if you’ve made it this far, you’ve likely already faced the Moonrithyl Carian Knight (another boss that probably got your heart rate up). From there, it’s a straight way through the castle toward the eastern side. Kill the knights that come in your way and use the elevator that leads to your next Castle Lord’s Chamber, Site of Grace. Head to the mist-shrouded door to meet Rellana and trigger the battle.
Phase 1
This initial phase of combat demands patience and precise dodging. She wields two blades that inflict both physical and elemental damage, but don’t let the magic glow intimidate you too much. Rellana’s attacks at this time mainly consist of melee strikes. Her combos are long and can easily pick you off guard if you get too greedy with your attacks. The best way is to dodge sideways, wait for her to finish her barrage, and then go in for a hit or two. If you’re using a shield, it will help you block her slashes but dodging seems more fluid to me.
Furthermore, be prepared for her signature moves like the Glintblade Phalanx, where she summons magic swords that come flying at you. Side dodge them to avoid getting hit—don’t try to face them head-on unless you want to become an Elden Ring pincushion.
This boss fight allows you to summon Needle Knight Leda or Dryleaf Dane to assist. I preferred Leda because she focuses on physical damage, which works well when Rellana is still relying on her swords. However, don’t forget that every summon gives a boost to the boss’s health. Too many helpers can make this fight drag on longer than necessary. I summoned one NPC and a Spirit Ash—enough to manage the fight without tipping the scales in Rellana’s favor.
Phase 2
Once you’ve whittled her health down to about 50%, Rellana will turn into another stage. Both her greatswords will start to glow with Magic and Fire. During this phase, her attacks become more dangerous. She’ll throw in wide-area Fire Sword slashes that leave flaming rings on the ground, and the Glintstone Arcs is the attack type she uses more frequently here. These elemental attacks have a large AoE, and dodging requires precise timing. Roll through them and stay on the move to keep you alive.
If you’re a magic user, things get trickier. Rellana isn’t weak to magic attacks, so you’ll have to switch things up—perhaps using elemental spells like Rotten Breath or Swarm of Flies for status effects. If you are playing with strength or bleed build, the physical attacks hit hard, and applying bleed damage will speed up the fight dramatically.
Once you beat her, you’ll receive 240,000 Runes and Remembrance of the Twin Moon Knight. This Remembrance can be traded for some exciting loot. In this exchange, you can either get Rellana’s Twinblade, a powerful stance-based weapon perfect with a great AoE, or pick the Twin Moon sorcery, if you are using the Intelligence build.
Tips for Survival
- Make sure you’re wearing gear that boosts resistance to Magic and Fire damage. This will save you from taking full damage from her deadly elemental attacks.
- Rellana has long combos that leave little room for counterattacks. So, be patient—wait for her to finish before striking in return.
- If you manage to stagger her with a heavy attack, you can follow up with a critical hit. It will be crucial for melee builds looking to end the fight quickly.
- Especially during the second phase, dodging is the priority. Her elemental attacks are far-reaching, and you’ll need to roll through or around them to avoid being caught in her magical crossfire.
The fight against Rellana, Twin Moon Knight, is one of the more challenging early-game boss encounters in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree. She’s fast and hits hard, and later on, she pulls out all the stops with fire and magic attacks that can easily overwhelm you. But with patience, precision, and maybe some backup, you can take her down.
