Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: Everything You Need to Know

Winter 2023 should see the release of the second part of the Final Fantasy 7 remake trilogy.

By GamesRecon

Fans have been anxiously expecting updates since the second installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy was announced at the 25th-anniversary celebration in 2022. The game, titled Rebirth, promises to bring players a new journey while keeping certain fan-favorite franchise staples. As the story develops, Cloud and his friends eventually leave Midgar and travel to an unknown location. While information has been slow in coming, it has kept supporters on the edge of their seats in anticipation.

However, there are still a lot of open questions. We don’t know what will happen in the game. To what extent will it resemble the initial game? Exactly how the outside world will appear? It’s also unclear how Vincent Valentine, a fan-favorite character, will show up. In the meantime, here’s a rundown of all we have known so far about the upcoming title, such as when it will be released, the gameplay storyline, and how to get your early hands on it by preordering.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Release Date

We don’t know when exactly Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will be released, but Square Enix has given us an indication of Winter 2023 to look forward to it. Unfortunately, this sets back our anticipation for the next chapter in the epic tale that originated in Final Fantasy 7 Remake. It’s worth mentioning that the scheduled release for the third and last part is still up in the air, so we may not see the end to this reinterpretation for a lot more.

Currently, it seems like the PlayStation 5 is the only platform where Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth will arrive. Considering the console’s widespread success and the passage of time since its introduction, this is hardly shocking news, but it may frustrate Remake devotees who began their tale on the PlayStation 4. Although, PC players can anticipate the title’s release as there are chances for them. But followers of the franchise who own Xbox are left in the dark because the lineup’s original edition is still missing from the Xbox store.

Trailer

During 2022’s 25th Anniversary Celebration, the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trailer was unveiled to the public, giving fans their first look at the game mechanics. In this gripping sneak peek, we join Cloud and Sephiroth as they set out on a mission as a team of soldiers. After asking, “What is fact and what is fiction?” the trailer cuts to a moment in which Zack brings a hurt Cloud to Midgar.

This teaser makes it clear that Rebirth will be a direct sequel to Final Fantasy 7 and will include many of the same memorable scenes and major plot twists from that game. The teaser also shows that Square Enix makes good use of the PS5’s powerful technology, as evidenced by the game’s enhanced visuals.

The Uncharted Territory of the Plot

The fact that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth doesn’t stick too closely to the old formula makes it all the more interesting. If you’re familiar with the Final Fantasy 7 remake, you know that it isn’t a direct reproduction, instead being an overhaul that delves into ideas like predestination and determinism. Because of what happened in Remake, our favorite cast of characters is released from the confines of the past, and the story reflects that. It’s fair to speculate that Rebirth will be faithful to the spirit of the classic and feature returns to some familiar environments, but the plot’s precise arc has yet to be revealed.

Director Tetsuya Nomura has claimed that familiarity with Final Fantasy 7 Remake is not necessary in order to get the most out of Rebirth, which is a captivating turn of events. According to a tweet posted by the official Final Fantasy 7 account in June 2020, “Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is being designed so that people can enjoy this game whether they know the original game or not. In fact, new players might even enjoy starting their Final Fantasy 7 journey with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Cloud and his friends embark on a new journey in this game, and I believe that the scenes that they witness after leaving Midgar will give players a fresh, new experience.”

Toriyama, who also played a significant role in the game’s creation, has indicated that Rebirth may break even more from the canon. He stated, “As it says at the end of the game ‘The Unknown Journey Will Continue’, and Cloud and his friends will be on that journey for a while yet. From here on in the Whispers cannot act to maintain the destined timeline, so fans can look forward to seeing what kind of future awaits the team.”

He was talking about the Whispers, those spectral characters who showed up anytime the story in Remake veered off course from the original tale which we saw in 1997’s Final Fantasy VII. As the events of Remake came to a close, Cloud and his crew had beaten the odds and met Sephiroth, who had spoken obliquely of establishing a route that had not yet been traveled. The removal of the Whispers has left the team’s future open to speculation.

Which Locations are Set for the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth?

The next stop for our heroes, if Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth stays true to the main game’s path, is the peaceful village of Kalm, which is located to the northeast of Midgar. It’s safe to suppose that Rebirth will cover a great deal more ground than Remake did, which only spanned the initial seven or so hours of the main title. The game’s world will likely expand to include places like Junon, Mt. Corel, The Golden Saucer, Cosmo Canyon, Nibelheim, and Rocket Town, and it may feature dramatic moments. Furthermore, we might be able to fill out the legendary FFVII cast by recruiting new party members like Yuffie, Vincent, and Cid.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Preorder

We really get how important it is for you to be able to preorder Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The game isn’t up for preorders just yet, though. You feel confident that as soon as preorders are live, we will release an in-depth guide detailing where and how you can purchase your game’s copy, in addition to any extra material that may be accessible only to those who get in early.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, then, looks to be a promising sequel of the Remake trilogy, expanding on the rethought universe of FF 7. Fans are counting down the months before the game’s winter 2023 release when they’ll hopefully find out the answers to their many questions regarding the game’s plot, mechanics, and other surprises. Keep checking back for additional information and be ready to start a new adventure with Cloud and his companions in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
