In a surprising twist, you will have the opportunity to acquire the Master Sword from the head of a dragon and this guide will explain the step-by-step process to do that.

Where to Find the Master Sword in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

There are two ways to track down the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Master Sword: the complicated one involves scouring Dragon Tear memory locations for those who have a bit of patience and time to spend, and the other one is more straightforward. Regardless of the path you choose, remember that the Master Sword is not found in a fixed location like in Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Instead, it rests atop a roaming dragon in the skies of Hyrule.

One specific dragon, the Light Dragon, elegantly travels over the entirety of Hyrule’s sky. There are two possible ways to find this creature:

1. Through the Lost Woods and the Korok Forest

Follow your way through the Lost Woods and you’ll end up in the Korok Forest. The Deku Tree needs your help once you get there to battle Phantom Ganon. The Deku Tree will give you the primary quest “Recovering the Hero’s Sword” once you’ve defeated the enemy. With the help of the Deku Tree, you can find the location of the Light Dragon and complete your quest. The best way to maintain track of the dragon’s whereabouts is to have the quest open in your Adventure Log.

2. Find the Light Dragon through Exploration

If you’re the exploratory type and trust your gut, you might find the Light Dragon while adventuring in Tears of the Kingdom. You’ll need to count on your keen eyesight to find it, as its position isn’t indicated on the map. Check the skies for a dragon with a blue glow coming from its head. You need to have the camera zoom close to make sure you have the right dragon, as there are several kinds lurking around the sky.

How to Jump and Ride on Light Dragon

Riding on Light Dragon in Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

In Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link can actually ride dragons, which he couldn’t accomplish in Breath of the Wild. You may easily ride the Light Dragon by landing on its body and making your way to its back. As soon as you encounter the dragon in the wild or activate the quest marker, make a beeline for the nearest Skyview Tower. Turn on the tower to launch yourself into the air, and once there, use your paraglider to climb to the dragon.

If the towers are out of range, look out for Sky Island. Use your Recall ability to reach them and gain altitude. Drop down from the floating island while using your paraglider to reach the dragon. If you find yourself accidentally falling off the dragon’s back, keep in mind that it moves with a slow pace so you can swiftly open your paraglider to reach the dragon’s height again with the help of available breezes.

  • To retrieve the Sword from the Light Dragon’s head, Link must use all his strength. Be wary, though, since the dragon will try to preserve its treasure by shaking Link off.
  • Links need to have two stamina rings full in order to lift the Master Sword. This underscores the significance of managing your energy levels throughout your journey. If Link is going to attempt this, he needs to be in excellent physical condition first.
  • As Link struggles with all his might, the Dragon eventually relents and the sword can finally be released from its perch.

When the sword has been used for an extended period of time, you’ll receive a notification indicating that it’s running low on energy. At this point, you’ll need to exercise patience and wait for it to recharge before wielding its power once more.
