You might have probably already fallen in love with Nix in Star Wars Outlaws, your cute Merqaal sidekick. He’s always with you on your adventures, helping out in tight spots and generally being adorable. But did you know that making Nix happy is key to unlocking one of the game’s abilities? Yes, if you want to unlock the Treasure Hunter ability, you’ll need to put a smile on the cute little companion’s face in four different ways.
The Treasure Hunter ability is part of The Mechanic’s skill tree and can be a real game-changer. Once unlocked, Nix gains the power to point out the locations of hidden treasures and containers throughout the map; it makes your treasure-hunting endeavors way easier. Put this ability aside, why shouldn’t you keep your cutie furry happy? However, the game has not made it clear how to do it. So our Star Wars Outlaws guide on how to make Nix happy tells the possible ways to make that happen to unlock the ability.
How Do You Make Nix Happy
The Treasure Hunter ability is available in The Mechanic’s Ability cards which you get after completing the Expert’s quest. It’s one of the three tasks that requires you to find four different ways to make Nix happy to unlock the ability. There are a few things that Nix loves, and most of them are fairly easy to pull off if you know what to look for.
Here’s what works on this little companion to let him smile and the ways I used:
- Use the Boost on Your Speeder: Once you complete the quest for The Mechanic NPC, you’ll unlock the Boost for your Speeder Bike. Every time you use it, Nix gets a kick out of it! He loves flying in the air, and you’ll see him gripping the bike for dear life with a very joyful face. If you can find a ramp to jump off, even better — the air time makes him even happier.
- Swing with the Grappling Hook: Kay’s grappling hook is not only a great tool for getting across gaps but also something that Nix enjoys. When you swing across using the grappling hook, Nix jumps on your back and loves the ride. It’s a fun, fast-paced moment for him, and it counts as one of the ways to make him happy.
- Cause Some Chaos (Blow Stuff Up): Nix may be adorable, but he’s also a chaos gremlin. He loves causing trouble, and one surefire way to get him grinning is by triggering explosions such as a bomb. Find a red explosive barrel, use the Left Bumper to command Nix to interact with it, and watch the chaos unfold. The explosions not only blast enemies but Nix gets mischievous joy with that.
- Give Nix Some Love: Pet Him: It’s the easiest (and probably my favorite) way to make Nix happy. Just walk up to him, hold down the button to interact (usually the Left Bumper), and select the option to pet him. Nix loves the attention, and it’s a guaranteed way to put him in a good mood.
While not necessary, stopping at a food vendor and sharing a meal with Nix is another way to improve his mood. Who doesn’t love food? There’s even a mini-game involved where you and Nix munch down on some galactic street food. So, it’s something that will fill you are your buddy while completing the challenge.
What Not to Do
While making Nix happy is important, there are a few things you should avoid if you don’t want to ruin the mood. First off, don’t pet other animals when Nix is around — he’s known to get a little jealous. And don’t even joke about selling him for meat, just be a good friend, and he’ll reward you.
How to Unlock Treasure Hunter Ability
Once you’ve made Nix happy in four different ways, you’ll still need to complete a couple more tasks to unlock the Treasure Hunter ability. These include:
- Find 10 Chests: You’ll likely locate them while exploring. Make sure you loot every chest you find.
- Fetch Items with Nix: Nix can collect items for you. Simply use Nix Vision to highlight objects and send him off to fetch them.
These are all the requirements for the Treasure Hunter ability. Not only will Nix highlight treasures in the environment, but you’ll feel good knowing you made your companion happy along the way.
